I've been dying to discuss this with someone, lol. I love parts of it (I do like the living room a lot with the big window and the kitchen) but I'm not crazy about the exterior or the long dining room. It feels like a conference room to me and I find the light fixtures to be really distracting and overpowering whenever she posts photos. Maybe a smaller version would work better? I do like the floor in there though and the double fireplace.
As for the exterior, I wish they had changed the roofline to make it less McMansion-y. I thought it was telling that the 3 architects they worked with initially wanted to do that before they found McGee and Co. If it were me, I also would have wanted to add more stone to the front façade to break up all that black a little more.
I love the backyard and sitting area out there, that is beautiful.
I stopped liking them right after the move into this house but I still glance once in awhile. Their level of money spending, smugness, & waste is so excessive. They buy new furniture non stop and the old furniture magically disappears. They spent more on the exterior of the house than most homes in the US cost. I don’t really care about what they spend but don’t try to shove it down my throat that $250k is attainable for everyone. It seems so silly to buy and remodel this McMansion. I know they say they loved the land, they could have built a new house on the land for what they have spent in a year.
I think Julia is just good at copying other’s styles, nothing riveting with her design sense.
I also would like to point out they are conservative, pro-trump, anti-mask people who are just good at hiding their views to make money.
I just looked now. I cannot imagine needing a table that large regularly. Well, especially now. lol
I am not sure how they could have changed the roof line without really driving up the cost. I do like the exterior changes overall.
They had family over for a big meal, I think it was in the summer, and they used a charger at each place setting. 1k plus for all those chargers. They are big on the swipe ups. I think a lot of things they get for free.

I have no idea who these people are (and that dining room is excessively big) or what the chargers looked like but did they say they paid $1k for all the chargers? Cause I can get chargers for like $5-$10 each at Michaels.
I used to hate follow them, but had to stop. They really don’t have a style, it’s mostly just copying what others have done.
I also lost a ton of respect when they whored themselves out for free appliances in their last house and were all, but we don’t drink because it doesn’t align with our religion (Mormons). You’re whoring out your family for free shit, a glass of wine is hardly worse than that.
I just did a riff on a black and white floor - I stumbled across their pics in my planning. It’s a lovely room but seems impractical in its size. I agree the giant light fixtures are distracting.

LOLZ. Nah, Julia spent $75 on each charger. For an indoor dinner for 21, during a pandemic... They probably went in the trash afterwards. Here's the link to them if you are really curious: www.casadeperrin.com/shop-chargers/concrete
Also in my petty book, how much has she spent on olive trees this year? I know one was like $600. Just be like a normal human and buy a fiddle leaf fig or other house tree for $100.

They shared the cost per charger, then said how many they owned.

They had 20 or so guests, so actually it was over $1,500.

I stopped following them after they moved, as well. I actually really like the exterior scheme, but don’t love the execution on their house. I think it looks better from the back. Ive realized that I used to follow bloggers because they were people who actually tested things out and gave me tips from a non-professional standpoint. Now, they’re just people who constantly push consumption.

Phew, that turned into quite a soapbox.
I know, I cringed when she shared this little tidbit. They spent a small fortune on trying to make it look like a "modern cottage." I think they've definitely improved it a lot but, unfortunately, it still looks very much like your average suburban McMansion because they didn't change the roofline. Personally, I would have prioritized that over copper gutters or some of the other renovations they've done this year (like that gigantic dining room/conference room). You know she's not happy about living in a typical McMansion. She can hashtag it all she wants but it's still a McMansion.
Back when they were still exploring possibilities for the exterior before committing, I once saw a commenter leave a mockup of the house that looked sooo much better. Basically it got rid of the turret room, got rid of that cheesy round window, and evened out the repeating rooflines in the back. She deleted it right away and got snippy but I always wondered why they didn't seriously consider doing something like that. She sounded so offended when the architects they met with recommended changing the roofline soup. I don't think it's money because they're obviously making obscene amounts of it off this business. I think she has like 7-8 employees. When YHL stepped back, CLJ stepped into the void they left behind in house blogging.

I'm 100% positive I've seen Julia drink wine. Maybe not often as she has Hashimoto's and has a really strict diet.
I also know they sell a lot of their old furniture to finance new purchases (at least that's what they did when the blog first started).
I like their house but HAAAATE the color of their music room. Maybe it's because we just painted over several rooms with that same color on the walls and I'm traumatized lol. I don't hate color in general (the gray houses on IG bore the hell out of me) but I didn't like that particular color.
I totally forgot about this! The hand-wringing over their burned down vacation house was so.much.
I would be pretty devastated if my home burned down. Even if it was a vacation home. That seems normal, no?
It probably would effect me more than I'm imagining. I think they were just starting to annoy me, so this is a bitch eating crackers situation for me. That's why I just look away now.

When you don’t feel sympathy for someone when their house burns down, probably time to unfollow! Good choice
Ha. Legit LOL. Yeah...I needed to step away! If it was their main house I would have a totally different reaction! I promise!
I just started following them a couple of years ago. I like that they are active on IG stories during their remodels so you can follow along closely. As opposed to other folks that just post after the fact. Their style is very different from mine and I hate the color they chose for the music room and the "playroom" if you can even call that yellow room that. It makes me nutty how "grown up" they force the bedroom designs to be for the kids.
They are part of a giant mormon family and have lots of large mormon family friends so once the pandemic is over I'm sure they'll be hosting stuff all the time in that dining room.
Violet not doubting they are conservative as they are Mormon but curious about the pro-Trump/anti-mask stuff, have they showed their asses on those things?

They hosted a 20 plus dinner this summer in their dining room, no masks.
Yeah I think it was all family because they did family pictures too. Her parents practically live with them. Not sure if the other family is local and whatnot and if they also work from home like they do. I didn't judge that as harshly as I would a game night or something like that.

I don't know where they all live, but she said the photographer was because they hadn't all been together since Christmas.
