depends for my dog - sometimes we'll crate him otherwise we'll give him the run of the house and he'll sleep either on the day bed in his room or in my office chair. My dog "patrols" when he's not crated so every hour he walks to the doors and windows looks out to make sure it's all ok and then will go back to bed for another hour.
He has the run of our lower level at night, but he usually curls up right in front of the stove (we have a heat vent just to the right of the stove, so he likes the warmth).
We have 3 small dogs. They all have beds in our room but we also have a step for them to get on the bed. They can sleep wherever they choose.
One likes to sleep at our feet in the middle, one in the center-center, and one likes to sleep so that his butt is wedged into my back if I'm facing away from him or so that I'm forced to hold him if facing him. He's ridiculous but he was an adult rescue from a puppy mill and his little front teeth are just nubs from where he chewed on his wire crate so I'm cool with spoiling him rotten. Plus, DH likes it cold so the dog keeps me warm!
In the living room where his crate is, he starts there and migrates to his bed or the couch. He can hang on our bed, but we only have a queen, when my husband is OOT for work (pre rona) I would try it, but the dog moves and shakes is just annoying overnight. We used to do the crate, but I rather he be out incase he gets sick or if he simply wants water.
We stopped the crate when he was 3 because he finally got his act together, he's going on 6.
We have an old sofa that she sleep on and considers her dog bed. The cat usually sleeps there too, when he's not sleeping with us. Only the cat sleeps on the dog bed we bought for the dog.
On our couch. He is a weird rescue. He is allowed on bed but hates snuggling so only goes in our bed if we are not in it. He's allowed on couch but again, won't go on it if we are on it.
As a puppy in her crate, then she moved to a x-pen. Now as a 12 year old she sleeps where ever. She has her dog beds in the living room and one in our room. Most nights she wanders from dog bed to hallway to dog bed. After DH feeds her when he gets up she joins me until I get up (5am-7am). The only place she doesn't sleep is with DD. DD still weighs less than the dog so I worry about the dog squishing her.
In my bed and I wish I could figure out a way to break them of it. I'm thinking of having DH build a co-sleeper type thing that you'd put a baby in so they feel like they're still next to us, but not. Getting a split king made things 100x worse too b/c no one wants the crack! Maybe a body pillow will help with that.
I LOVE THE CRACK!!!
I sleep in my split king by myself (long story), but I sleep on the crack with my foot in it.
When we had dogs, they both slept with us, but they were beagles and had a blanket at the foot of the bed. They knew they weren’t allowed anywhere else on the bed. They didn’t impact our sleep.

We have gates on our stairs and all of the animals stay downstairs at night. There is a huge dog bed and the other dog sleeps on the couch or a comfy armchair.
I would let them sleep with us but my boyfriend really doesn't want them to, and I am sure I sleep better without them up there (light sleeper).
We have a King and my 60 lb dog sleeps on the bed probably 90% of the time. She has a bed in our room too and may start there some nights, but always ends up in our bed. I am her "person", so she sleeps on my side even though she could fit in the middle. I love it, even if I have to lay diagonally sometimes. Sometimes my legs are her pillow too.
Our old girl, Daisy, sleeps in out bed all night. She loved her crate growing up.
The boys move around. Meatloaf is usually on the floor on my side (he never liked his crate and doesn't lay on soft things very often (he gets hot easily). Whiskey moves between my mom's bed, our bed, the couch and the floor on my side of the bed. We are trying to get him to snuggle in bed with us. He didn't like crates much either.
Almost 1 year old lab sleeps in the crate I’m the laundry room.
14 year old Boston mix sleeps in a chair in our room. Half the time she jumps up in our bed and it’s the best and the worst. I love the snuggle but she moves all night.

He sleeps on an amazing bed (that DH and I are a little jealous of) right next to my side of the bed. The dog loves this bed so much that he races me to the bedroom when I start to pack it in for the night.
I would like to let him on our bed, but DH is a hard no on that. When DH leaves for work, the dog jumps up on the bed and sleeps next to me until I get up an hour or so later.
My oldest dog (18) is 42 lbs and sleeps at the foot of my bed for the first half of the night. He usually wakes up to go out in the middle of the night and does not return. I was determined not to let him sleep in my bed when I got him, but he would sneak up after I fell asleep and I will miss him when he is gone. My youngest dog is 70 lbs and spends part of the night in the bed. Once he is sure I am going to sleep he jumps down and sleeps on the floor (ignoring the five dog beds in the house).
I have a roommate with two other dogs. The small one (15lbs) will join me in my bed if she gets up before I do. Her large dog (80 lbs) sleeps part of the night in the kennel on an orthopedic dog pillow, part of the night on the tile floor, and the rest of the night on the leather couch.
During the day, they nap on the couch, the bed, and some of the pillows, but always the one that already has at least one dog on it.
I do sometimes wish I had some more space, but for the most part I enjoy the company, warmth, and affection.
