My kids are 8 and 10 and want to have movie night. I'm willing to pay to rent a movie, either the regular $5 Amazon rental or even the theater rental price. Is there anything new/good out? I googled a bit but I'm always behind the times and haven't heard of most things. They did see War With Grandpa recently.
Not new at all. But Big is on Disney + and it was a big hit with my kids (7 and 10) last weekend. Although it does have some problematic 80s themes if you're squeamish about that stuff. Lots of smoking, some cursing, etc.
Isle of Dogs is on Disney + as well. I'm hoping I can get DS to pick that tonight for movie night.
DS1 (9) and I watched War with Grandpa last weekend (on Prime, I think it was $6 to rent). We both liked it! DS is planning pranks for next time he sees his grandpa! LOL
ETA: Just fully read the OP. Haha. I see you have that one covered already!

My kids are also 8 and 10. They did like Soul. Croods is on our list as well. We also want to see the Great Mouse Detective and I want to introduce them to Nancy Drew movies, but those are not new

I've never seen Big and almost watched it last weekend. I want to see it! Or, it's possible I saw it when it came out and I don't remember b/c that was (gulp) 32 years ago.

I refuse to rent new movies on top of streaming lol. My kids liked safety on Disney plus a lot (9/11 boys). My friend’s similarly aged girls enjoyed it too.
