Shopping toilets and I need some advice. If you prefer an elongated toilet, please explain why. Thanks!
I didn't prefer the elongated specifically, but it seems like all the new toilets were elongated and I liked elements of those, including the two-button flush, the smooth lines with less areas for gunk to collect, etc. Here's the one I ended up with, and we are happy with it more than a year later.
We've put elongated bowl toilets into both of our bath renos. I haven't felt strongly about it, but H does. He is tall and finds the elongated bowl easier to, er, hit without splashes/mess? I have no anatomical experience with this. The aspect I cared about was skirted trap, because they don't gather dust/etc. We put a Kohler Cimarron elongated bowl, skirted trap toilet into our full bath when we renovated and I like it.
I would say I associate round bowls with more dated bathrooms.
We replaced two of the round toilets in our house. One of the new ones is elongated and it’s definitely more comfortable. The other one we replaced with another round one because the bathroom is tiny and elongated wouldn’t fit.
ETA: I also think of round toilets as looking dated.

We put a round toilet in our guest bath because the toilet tub area is a little crowded so we needed a smaller toilet. Otherwise we go for elongated.
*When we remodeled they accidentally installed the round in our master and elongated in guest bath (we were specific about this) and then acted like we were high maintenance for wanting them switched.
We’ve only ever had round toilets in bathrooms that needed a smaller footprint.
I couldn’t say if it’s because of what I’m used to, but I personally prefer sitting on the elongated - anytime I use the round one, it feels too small.
We have a round one in our guest bath that we are getting rid of. The standard height round truly feels like a kids toilet. It is great for potty training but odd for adults.

I don’t care about it but DH has a strong preference for elongated. I talked to my mom and she said my dad strongly agrees with DH. I think it’s a boy thing maybe?
We have elongated in both of our bathrooms. I never knew I had a preference, but now when I go somewhere with a round toilet, I definitely feel like it is less comfortable.
Elongated. And if space is a issue, they make elongated ones that have almost the same (maybe the same) projection of a round. We put one in our tiny, tiny half bath.

Thanks for all the comments! Space definitely IS an issue. We have an old round that we're considering replacing, and we also have a new elongated in another bathroom. What I have noticed, and it annoys me to no end, is that the elongated needs constant skidmark cleaning, because things drop on the "shoreline" rather than directly into the water (also explains why splashback only happens on round toilets). I have never felt like the round toilet is too small, and I am a large person, so it surprised me that so many people cited this. Thanks very much for the great insights!
