My very nearly 5 year old is very interested in getting a ‘big girl’ doll, and I’m wondering if the Our Generation dolls are of decent quality. I’d rather not shell out for an AG doll since she really doesn’t know the difference. Specifically, she wants a doll that she can match with, and I found a matching pj set that she will adore. She’s a bit rough on her things, though. Not out of the ordinary, but she is definitely a physical kid, so super fragile isn’t great. If there are any Canadians with experience on here, what are Maple Lea dolls like in comparison?

My kids have them and I think their durability and cost is appropriate for how my kids treat them (not well). They have been played with, but they go through sporadic periods of playing with dolls vs other things so they haven't gotten daily, long term use.
OG is absolutely fine! We only have a boy OG doll, the girls are all AG, and the biggest different is the hair. I think the girl hair is nicer, though.
I didn't let DD have access to the full size AG dolls until she was 7.5. At 4, I would absolutely go with OG. You can always buy an AG down the road if you'd like if she still into them and treats them with care.

We have a few of each (OG and AG) and the main difference I've noticed over the years is that the cheaper dolls' hair gets ratty more easily, and is harder to brush out once it's matted.
We decided to start with OG dolls for our two girls and I’m so glad we did. As much as they liked the dolls in the store and love going to American Girl to look around, it turns out they don’t actually like to play with the dolls. We also have the OG diner, which they do play with, but not with the dolls. We bought several outfits from Walmart and target to start and they would occasionally dress the dolls for the first few months, now they haven’t been touched in over a year. I think it’s great to start with the cheaper doll then move up to American Girl if they really like it.
I’ve been very impressed with the quality of our OG dolls. My six year old is not super responsible with her toys and there’s no way I’d pay American Girl prices, knowing hey they’d be treated. Their hair can get matted easily- but I’ve had a lot of luck brushing it out using a recipe I found on Pinterest (it was basically a mixture of fabric softener and water)

We have one OG doll and several AG dolls. The OG one seems to be lasting just as well. Our OG has straight hair which is easy to brush. We love the og accessories. Sooo much cheaper than AG and hold up fine.
