I just took a trip to a pet food store near us and I've decided I'm feeding Betty the natures variety raw food.
The store has a 3lb bag for almost $18 and I figured that I need 1 bag a week. I found a few places online that sell it for a few bucks less and with auto delivery.

I buy from local pet stores and from our holistic vet. I haven't really compared prices; there aren't too many places around me who sell it so I buy it wherever I can.
$6/lb is ridiculously expensive!! You should just buy 73/27 ground beef at the grocery store for much less. Its better quality too.
If you're in the southeast, look up Blue Ridge Beef. They have a huge variety for $1.40-$1.80/lb. Hilo eats 2lbs of raw a day. I get beef w/ bone, tripe, organ beef, and venison for Hilo. They have chicken,_ turkey, and some others too but Hilo s allergic to bird. I just call or email them my order and they'll drive a big truck down once a month and drop it off. There are some small local stores that carry it too.
M6, I'm in seattle. Do you get this kind of stuff from the butcher? I was toying with the idea of breaking down a whole chicken for her and mixing it with a little rice, veggies and yogurt. The thing that I'm most concerned about is that she won't get all of the nutrients she needs if I do it myself. Do you have a recipe?
They are a distributor. They ground it up and put it in rolls amd freeze it. You can try googling for raw dog food distributor in your area but I've been looking for my cousin (SoCal) but seems they are rare over on the west coast.
I would just buy the ground beef in the grocery store and stock up when its on sale. You could try grinding raw chicken too. My mom has an attachment for her kitchen aid mixer that she uses to grind up meat for my dog when we visit. Things like vanilla yogurt, canned pumpkin, fish oil, raw egg, and vitamins are good for them too. Organ meats are good for their digestive system, you can get chicken liver at a grocery store and maybe beef organs too.
You can also supplement with a high quality kibble to make up the nutrition. I give my dog two lbs of raw for breakfast and 3/4 cup of Orijen Six Fish for dinner. TOTW pacific is good too and much cheaper. I would go with a fish meal for the fish oils because it keeps their fur shiny.
I dont know a whole lot about it. This is some of what I've learned. I just rotate red meats and organ meats for breakfast and give him dry for dinner to make up the nutrition. I also give one fish oil pill a day and occasion the yogurt, pumpkin and raw egg.
There are raw feeding forums on yahoo. There may even be one specific to your area/region (there is for me). We actually found our raw supplier through a therapy pet group we belonged to, but she also lists on a couple forums I belong to, as well.

We buy 3 months worth at a time!
This. We go through a distributor. It's actually a company that distributes meat to local restaurants and the raw meat for animals is also human grade, except for the whole ground meats - turkey, beef, chicken, etc... because of the bone fragments in it.
We pay roughly $0.79 - $2.09 per pound. I order anywhere from 80 - 150 pounds at a time.
Also - I have friends in the ag business with farms so I try and get their extra meat too. I've gotten whole pigs, half cows, chickens, rabbits, ducks, etc... too.

I buy from UW Provisions. I feed mostly chicken necks (bone meal) and then different types of hearts. I just added a 3rd (yeah I am a dog hoarder), so we are doing chicken thighs to start.
