Our baby girl arrived Thursday at 10:17am. She's just over 7lbs and 20inches. We were both discharged Friday and are doing well at home! She's eating great and sleeping pretty okay so far I think we're all adjusting well! DD1 is doing really well with her but has mostly just gone back to her life as usual, lol.
Birth story - Sorry, it's a little long!: I started having contractions on Tuesday after seeing my midwife. I was only dilated to a 1 but she was able to do a membrane sweep. Despite contractions all day Wednesday starting at 3am, it took until nearly 10 that night for them to get consistent and under 5 minutes. Still, when we got to the hospital shortly after midnight I was only a 2. Womp womp. After 2 more hours of laboring in l&d triage I only progressed to a 2.5. It was really disappointing and frustrating. My options came down to: Try hanging out for another hour, go home and come back or take therapeutic rest, which I wasn't really on board for. I opted to labor for another hour and somehow I progressed to a 4 so we got admitted in the wee hours of the morning! Like with DD, my goal was an unmedicated birth but labor was progressing fast and intense so I opted for an epidural and getting some rest after over 24 hours without sleep. Zero regrets! After a little rest and food, DD2 was born after pushing for only 4 contractions! It was a fast but beautiful delivery. DD2 is perfect in every way and we got to do a nice long stretch of skin to skin right away.
My nurses and all the staff were incredible for our short stay and I really want to send them something this week to say thank you! I'd love any ideas!
And you got food! I got caught with him and had to spit it in the nurses hand and get a lecture!
Yes! It wasn't anything great but the nurses will feed you bland food if things are going well. I got to eat chicken broth, tea, jello and pudding lol DH got brought eggs, bacon and toast, booo. Still it was so good to eat anything because I was starving!!
Thanks, everyone! I'm still totally going to keep lurking here, especially because I can't wait to read some birth stories here soon!!
Congratulations! The being able to have food thing caught my eye too! It seems ridiculous and while it is appropriate for some people, I think is an antiquated rule set by old male docs who have no idea of how exhausting birthing is. At least thatโs what I tell myself.
Anyone can answer, what is a therapeutic rest? They put you to sleep?

I was able to eat bland, not-so-solid foods with DD1, too! I was surprised but really happy! They told me the reason for restriction is if they had to put you under in an emergency you are more likely to aspirate if you've recently eaten. My midwives have always allowed some sort of eating if your labor is going well and is low risk because labor is absolutely hard work!
Therapeutic rest (at least what they were offering me) is some drug and morphine. Essentially take away some of the pain so you can rest. If you're in false labor, it will help stop it but if you're in actual labor, it can help you relax and progress. The idea of taking some pain meds, like morphine, make me feel ehhhh. I know it's safe during labor but I just really didn't want to for some reason.
Looks like we DID wind up with those birthday twins.
I'm so excited for you, corgimom, and hope you're recovering well and soaking in all the sweet moments.
Yes! You were right about us having birthday twins!
Recovery is going well and we are enjoying all the family time together...which is going to be a lot because DH tested for covid on Monday and it came back positive. Yikes. It's scary and it sucks but luckily the girl's pediatrician reassured us that children, even if they get it, are rarely symptomatic and generally fare very very well. So that helps with the anxiety! DD1 and I got tested later in the day Monday and we're waiting on our results still. Fingers crossed we just all continue to feel well!
