We have 3 drop ceiling tiles in the basement that have stains on them, that I'd like to replace. I can't find anywhere that sells 24x48 drop ceiling tiles in packs smaller than 8 or 10 tiles though, and I don't really want to spend $50 to get 3 tiles.

Any ideas? Or should I just plan to use oil-based primer, ceiling paint, and hope that they will sort of match the others?

I'd probably spend the $50 and leave the tiles for the new owners. $50 is a small price to pay to sell your house. Painted tiles will not look good, or like you are hiding something.

I’d either leave them for the new owners or try to sell them in Craigslist. Or email your neighbors? I once had a neighbor ask if anyone had something so she didn’t have to buy a whole pack (I can’t remember what but it was some building material lol)
