Gender Reveal

We’re not having a party, that’s not really our style even with Covid as a factor, but we want to do something special for DD since her life is going to be turned upside down. If you have another child, how did you tell him/her?

I think what I’m going to end up doing is opening the letter (it’s supposed to arrive in the mail today) and then make a cake at home and have DD cut it with me. I’ll feign surprise even though I’ll know the color of the cake. I’ll have H record it and then we’ll share the video with family.

Ideally we’d have a local bakery do the honors but 1) I don’t want to do the whole meet up and discuss design thing and 2) spend a bunch of money on a cake that only three people are going to eat. I guess I’ll google some simple designs and hope it doesn’t look like something that would belong on Nailed It!

Lurker - my doctor called my daycare provider to let them know the sex, and she had my daughter decorate a onesie in blue paint and then they made a little pinata filled with blue candies, confetti and two pics of my daughter with a Big sis shirt and wearing a mustache

If you want to do a cake and keep the surprise you could check with a grocery store bakery or other local bakery - they could probably do a big cupcake with colored filling so then there isn't a huge design and not a huge cake. All you'd have to do is drop off the envelope

Good idea about a grocery store bakery. I could call Wegmans and see if they can do something simple. I love their baked goods and I'm lazy. Lol

We opened the pinata on Facetime with our families too. It was fun, and on my side the first baby we found out the sex of before birth. My sister waited until delivery with both her girls, and my daughter we waited and then found out with my son with the Harmony test.

You can actually make cupcakes with coloured filling. It’s super easy and could could simply do it with a cake mix if baking isn’t your thing.

I ended up calling Wegmans so that we could all find out at the same time. I couldn't believe how easy it was - under $40 and 24 hour turn around. My H just ran in with the envelope, they looked at the paper, and told us to come back tomorrow afternoon. Excited!

we bought the colored confetti poppers and told him pink would be a sister, blue would be a brother

then we let him do another round with the neighbor kids the next day since we had leftovers
