Not making plans, but starting to look at WDW for possible trip in summer 2022 and it's fun to think about the future. I haven't been since I was a teen in the 90s and DH was last there around 02.
Are AK and HS full day parks or better as half days?
We would likely do parks M to F. Is there are good day of week to do each park? Thinking would do MK twice.
Advice for a newbie with 3 kids who would then be 9, 11, and 13 in 2022?
I'd do two days at HS with kids that age. Better rides, and you might need two days to grab a spot for Rise of the Resistance, which is not to be missed.
Assuming attendance gets back to normal, yes, plan on full days. That way you can build in breaks/meals and not feel rushed.
We made them both full days, but for us that’s like 8:30-4:00ish with a break for a sit-down lunch in the middle. Our kid doesn’t care for roller coasters or thrill rides, so we usually spend more time going to shows and doing smaller rides that generally don’t have very long lines. If you spend more time in line for bigger rides, you could end up making it a longer day.
I would do them both as full day parks. On our last Disney trip, we did MK for 3 days, HS for 2, Epcot for 1, and AK for 1. We had hoppers and AK closes earlier than the other parks, so we went to Epcot for an hour or two in the evening in addition to the full day there.
Right now I would avoid HS on Friday as it is the busiest park and more likely to get people coming for a long weekend, but that may not be true in 2022. For the same reason you should probably skip MK on Friday as well, but I always go there for my last park day that usually falls on a weekend day and it is ok. Friday won't be as bad as Sat/Sun for any of them.
Summer is hot as hell. Make sure you are prepared, lol.
What we usually do is go to the park in the morning, swim after lunch until evening, and then go to the parks again after dinner. Park hoppers are a must for us since that gives us tons of flexiblity. They aren't for everyone though and it is an added expense.
HS has a lot to offer now. I would plan on a full day there for sure if not two. Animal Kingdom is our least favorite park. It's huge, everything is far apart, and we just don't like much beyond the Safari and Lion King Show.

AK is my favorite when it's hot though...so much shade!
I agree, full days. While those parks may not have the same amount of rides as MK, you may still feel rushed to get through everything in half a day. We went a few years ago and just took our time, it was much more enjoyable that way.
We went two years ago with kids ages 4, 6, 8 and 10. I would definitely plan on full days, especially now that HS has all the Star Wars stuff. We did LONG days and used dining for breaks. The kids did great! However, we weren't there in summer. The heat will be a factor in your planning.
