We’re currently leasing. Having the propane company be wholly responsible for the tank is nice, but I’m wondering how much we’d save if we bought the tank and could shop around for propane prices.
We plan on being in the house until 4yo dd is on her own, so for quite a while still.
The tank was installed when the house was built in 2004, so could reach its life expectancy limits while were still here.
Hmmmm, we have propane and the company is responsible for the tanks. We weren't given an option to lease or buy and we don't pay any monthly or hidden fees for "leasing". We just pay for the gallons of propane at a locked in low rate based on how many gallons they fill each month. Maybe its a regional thing? Are all the propane companies in your area the same?
ETA: If we decide to change propane companies, the old company would come pick up their tank and the new company would bring new tanks.

um... is it bad that I have no idea? it's just there - the tank - and they come fill it... but it is for our mountain property - so I don't get that invested in it... but I don't recall seeing a separate line item for "tank lease" on my bills.
We own ours. There’s really no maintenance involved that I know of. Ours is almost 8 years old and no issues. I don’t think we pay more for the propane either.
We own. When we bought the home it was already there and was owned by the previous own so we didn’t make the decision. We haven’t had any maintenance and don’t plan on any.
