We needed more storage in our powder room, and I wasn’t finding a vanity that I liked for a reasonable price.
So we decided to modify an existing piece of furniture, which I found on Marketplace for $150. The original handles were removed in the 60s/70s and replaced with ceramic ones that they epoxied on, so replacing them was fun 🙄.
We were fortunate that the plumbing lined up exactly so nothing needed to be moved. And my husband was excited to buy a drill press and learn how to cut holes in marble. Taking the tools into consideration, I’m not sure I saved much money, but I’m really happy with the result!
Then I was stuck on art. Most of the art in my house was either created by family members or obtained on a trip, so I was looking for something similarly meaningful. I ended up using pictures that I took on various trips and putting them through a watercolor filter, and then I had them printed on Mixtiles. I'm pretty pleased. The bright colors make me happy, LOL!
I'm debating about whether to put the original shelving back up over the toilet vs. getting more Mixtiles or putting a single travel related picture there. If I did the Mixtiles I would have to move all of the others down quite a bit, or the ones above the toilet would not be in alignment with the mirror (doable, but annoying).

I would not put the shelf back up, it seems too ornate for the clean lines of the mixtiles. I would put a single picture there to balance out a little. More mixtiles would seem too much. You did a great job, it is beautiful.

@sameoldstory , nicolewi , dr.girlfriend , it is weird. I used Google photos as the hosting site. I can see the pictures on my computer, but not my phone, but yesterday I could see on both. I also can see them on Chrome, but no other browser. Maybe a Google problem? I will try to find a different place to host the pictures.

Maybe there's a limit in number of views? That used to happen with other sites, where after a certain number of view photos would be unavailable. I just see circular grey dots with minus signs inside them. I host photos on Shutterfly and post without issue.

Looks great! Gorgeous vanity and sink! I agree with the PP - I'd do one single travel related picture above the toilet. The shelf doesn't seem to fit with the style and I think more mixtiles would be too busy.
OK. I tried a new hosting site. Hopefully everyone can see the pictures now!
I can see them! And they're beautiful! i would not put those shelves back. They are too small and fiddly for the feel of the room. If you need more storage I would do thick black floating shelves, and then you could mix wicker or wooden boxes to bring some of the brown from the cabinet as well as maybe some blue/white to tie in the vessel sink in the objects you put on them?
And now I'm curious, do any of the dresser drawers work or are they just decorative now that you've adapted the piece for plumbing?
Yes, they all work! We took the panel off the back of the vanity and cut it up to fit around the piping. I don’t really need storage, although since the sink is Mexican pottery I thought I might display some of my other Mexican pottery pieces.
I can see them now! It looks wonderful. What a great transformation of that piece. I definitely would not add those shelves back in, the style does not fit with what you have done in the room. I would not put more travel photos on that wall, you already have them on (3) walls that I can tell. If anything, I would maybe do a navy blue macrame, a succulent wallscape, or maybe a paper flower, something like below.
