We use our toaster oven on a daily basis. Between my kids toasting their frozen waffles, toasting bread for a sandwich, or making my cheese toast for their snacks, it gets used a lot. But we have very limited counter space and the toaster oven takes up a lot of it and even if we redo the kitchen, it's still an issue because we have a weird, small area to work with. The kitchen cabinet planner we've been talking to suggested that we get a convection microwave. He said they can be used as a toaster and also as a standard microwave.
Does anyone have one and does it really work as advertised? I don't have a great understanding of how microwaves work, but from what I do know, I have a hard time understanding how one could also make toast!
I actually have one --- but I have never used the convection feature. It came with crisper pans you are supposed to use to make things crispy and racks for pizza. Mine is a wall over/micro combo. I have used the oven convectin portion. Maybe I should try it!
Thanks for asking this - our microwave just died and friend told me that these existed and I'm intrigued! It would be great to get rid of our toaster oven.
I think my microwave does convection (it came with the house), but like others I've never tried using the convection settings. If there are specific accessories that need to be used for effective crisping, I'm probably missing those. Now I'm curious..
We had one. It only lasted about five years before it died. It also took forever to heat up, so was a huge pain to use. Our regular oven took less time than it did. I think ours was GE Profile. The only good thing I have to say about it is that it made amazing nachos.
We have a Thermador speed oven which has a convection feature, microwave, regular oven, broil and a few more settings. I love it so much that I’ve literally not turned on my actual oven since we moved back in. It toasts bread, makes frozen food crispy and cooks very fast in regular microwave mode.
