When we built our addition we created a smallish patio off the french doors from our bedroom. I'd like to have a little patio furniture out there -- maybe a conversation set if we have room. BUT, the patio is completely exposed to the elements, and we don't have a shed or garage or ANYWHERE that we can store furniture in bad weather / winter. What would be the best type of patio furniture for those circumstances? I can take cushions off and store them in the loft in winter, but the furniture frame itself needs to stay outdoors.
We power wash them every once in awhile when they get too dirty/pollen covered. There aren't a TON of cushion options, but we have the gray and white stripes and it's neutral enough.
We have Polywood chairs on our patio that we leave out (SE PA, so all four seasons/extremes). We bought it exactly for that purpose. It's also very comfortable.

I would choose something with an aluminum frame. We have the Malibu set from North Cape International. It's faux wicker over an aluminum frame. We're replacing the cushions this year after 11 years, but the frame and wicker are still in great condition. And it stays out all year.
You could also look at powder coated steel. But if you get scratches on the powder coating the steel will rust.
We've had a number of wicker items with aluminum frames that have held up really well. My main suggestion is to get a deck box for the cushions. We keep the cushions in a box unless they are in use and they still look brand new.
We have very solid teak rocking chairs - they weathered into a grayish color but they're very solid after 9 years exposed. Ditto aluminum, it doesn't age much at all (though it may not be as comfortable).
We have a cheap set, but I pushed it against our house and covered it with a tarp this past winter and it held up great. We store the cushions in a deck box, which i also covered with a tarp. I honestly think we will get many years out of this set by doing this.

This is exactly what we do and the cushions are looking good despite all the rain in London this winter.

Thanks, I ended up getting a cheap-ish set and a deck box for the cushions. Mostly because the Polywood chairs all seemed HUGE and deep and the patio is tiny, and we are probably never really going to be outdoor-entertaining people.
