She's being admitted and right now we're waiting to be taken up to the floor. I'm so thankful for her friends. She'd texted them goodbye and they contacted me. I was sleeping in and I didn't hear the messages at first. I still don't know why my phone didn't go off. I'm just so thankful I got down when I did.
Her friends (and their parents, who also contacted me) likely saved her life.
I completely broke down on her in the intake room because I've been where she's been, but I never had anyone. Literally no one in my life knew what I was going through. I know how hard she's fighting and how tired of it all she is. I likened it to treading water to keep from drowning when the shore looks far away. At some point, you have to stop treading water and just start swimming. She needs to take ownership of her healing and has been resisting that.

I know we have some hikers here ... does anyone use the AllTrails app and pay for the membership/pro version? Is it worth it? I think it’s $60 for 3 years but they’re having a 30% off sale this weekend. I am a very low end hiker, usually sticking to easy level trails and haven’t had to use the offline feature in the month I’ve been using the free version. So I want to do it but I don’t want to waste $50 either.
I made a list of 20 local hikes of 1-5 miles within an hour of me and I want to do them before the end of the year.
I don’t want to ignore the very real, albeit very different, struggles katfco and Bernadine are dealing with. I don’t have wise or comforting words for either of you but you are in my heart.

I use Hiking Project, but haven’t delved into everything it offers. The free version seems good to me though.
katfco Wow! Glad the friends contacted you and your village is there to support you all. I hope for the best next step.
I had my second vaccine shot yesterday and feel like crap. I’ve been sleeping off and on all day. I also just realized I’m eating crackers (nothing sounds good) and it’s technically Passover.
Oh my god, katfco, I’m so sorry. Huge huge hugs to you
Bernadine, you may also want to talk to your daughter’s teacher. There’s a good chance the other little girl told her parents and they’ve talked with the school. It’ll be good to let them know you’re aware, you’re mortified, and you’re on it. I’m sorry you’re dealing with it but you have gotten good advice and I know you’re doing all you can.
Are you a teacher? I’m asking just cause I’m wondering if Black parents in general report this to the teachers. I know my parents never did when I was growing up when kids said racist stuff to me. I’m not a parent, but I personally wouldn’t trust a white teacher to handle this how I’d want, to be honest. I can imagine a teacher forcing the white kid to apologize to the Black kid and some kombaya lesson and it’d make me angry all over again with it being handled that way.
But obviously that’s just my thoughts so that’s why I was asking if you’re a teacher who has had parents report this since you said it’s a good chance they did talk to the school.

Not a teacher, an SLP/now SAHM. I covered an SLP maternity leave last year and during an IEP meeting a Black mother shared that her son was being bullied for his light skin color and being told he wasn't really Black. The counselor went into the classrooms and did some lessons as a result.

I’m not. Maybe “good chance” was overblown. At our kids’ schools, parents were asked how they want to handle things, but you make an excellent point that’s not a universal experience.
katfco: so many prayers for your daughter that she gets the help you need. And prayers for you and the rest of your family as you all work to navigate this difficult time. I’m so sorry, but glad that her friends reached out to you.
Amazing weather here in Indiana today so we spent time on yard work and enjoying our new patio. We also went furniture shopping and will have a new recliner and couch with chaise lounge delivered in 3 weeks. Can’t wait!

I just bought it, but just did a year for $15. Haven't tried it yet, but i like the idea of a downloadable map. We hiked at Shenandoah National Park last fall and struggled with finding the right trails because internet didn't work in the park. It would have been worth the $15 just for that, so i figured I'm better prepared now if that happens again!
My neighbors have had their Christmas lights up and turned on since early November 2019. It is overcast today and they turned them on at 2pm.
Ours are still up, but haven't been lit since January 6th. I had forgotten about them. lol
Maybe they have theirs on a dusk to dawn timer. We used to have one and it was surprising (to us) how often the things plugged into it lit up during daylight hours when it was overcast.

Our are up. DH has been way too busy to spend a day taking them down. They’re at least unplugged though so not lit up at night

I completely forgot about Shenandoah NP. It's jussssst a little too far for a no-public-bathrooms day trip (which I learned the hard way lol) so I haven't been in nearly a year but that alone makes it worth it. I definitely need trail maps there!
So on Friday I bought some Folex at the grocery store and when I got home, H pointed out we already have a giant bottle of it. So I left it in the grocery bag with the receipt to take back. Went to the store today and at customer service the girl was like, "This isn't on the receipt so I can't return it." And I was so confused since I'd never taken it out of the bag, so I took it back and as I was walking around the store, I double-checked the receipt, definitely not on there. But it definitely came from that grocery trip. I can be forgetful, but it was only 2 days ago lol. So they must have just not charged me for it. So I went back to customer service and was like, "So, I don't think I was charged for this and I don't want it soooo I guess I'll just give it back?" lol so weird.
