As the earth tilts and the days get longer, my west-facing kitchen window is drenched in piercing sunlight. Right at dinner time, too. My other 3 west-facing windows have outdoor roll shades, but not this one. I can tilt the shutters, but that upper part lets in a lot of light.
I remember the valances from the past that were frilly and cutesy. Surely there must be something better out there? Please show me what you have over a window like this?
I did not mean to bookmark, and I don't know how to un-bookmark. Sorry!
Ooh, I like that. The pattern matches my nightstand lamps and curtains! This looks like it would be simple to DIY, too.
It was so easy. Just basically wrap the fabric around and staple in place. A little bit of folding for the corners.
How do you attach it to the wall? We've had this style of topper made for us before but it's slipped over a plastic piece that has brackets mounted to the wall.

It does slip over brackets. I can’t get a good picture because there are shades up there, too. And it’s been 3 years so I don’t remember much. 🤣But it looks like it just rest on an L-shaped bracket. Looking closely, there is a 4th piece on top that rests on the bracket. I didn’t remember covering that part with fabric, but I guess I did. 🤪

I just bought an antique French pelmet off Etsy to hang as a valance over our sliding door. It’s a scalloped linen Vichy check in ivory and gray with a very thin blue border. I’m just going to sew some metal rings at the end and hang on nails. Our house is a funky mid century ranch and I’m hoping it’ll look pretty cool. It’s one of those things that seem like a great idea in my mind, but has a possibility of going really bad. I can report back next week.
