DH and I have been thinking about this too as our 15 year anniversary is in July. We haven't decided between a full week or just a long weekend, leaning towards a long weekend.
Places we are considering:
- Maui - Chicago - Colorado Springs or other Colorado destination - Sandals resort in Jamaica
We have actually been to all of those except for Sandals, but I know several people that have been to Sandals and really liked it.
ETA: By Colorado Springs, I really meant Manitou Springs. It is a very cute town right next to Colorado Springs. If you haven't been to CO very much, I highly recommend Breckenridge.

I would love to go to Santa Fe and Taos.
It’s hard to say what things will be like in July though in terms of Covid. I do know NM has had a high vaccination rate — one of the highest in the country per capita.

What kind of things do you like to do? Do you just want cities? Do you like nature and outdoor things?
I also have a July anniversary. We did a northern MI trip for it once. Traverse City, Leelanau Peninsula and Mackinac Island. It was a nice relaxed trip.
Milwaukee can be a fun place. Up north a ways in WI is Door County but not a “city atmosphere” though it is quite relaxing.
I really loved Santa Fe and Taos. I’m not sure if they would be too hot in July, but it would at least be dry heat!
I’ll put in my usual pitch for Portland, Maine. Of course, that would be a long flight, but I’ve heard the airlines are adding direct flights from many new cities. It’s a super manageable city with lots of young people, great restaurants and bars, and the ocean right there for whale watching, island hopping, and day trips to other pretty places. I fell in love with it enough as a tourist to move here!
The American Club in Kohler, WI would be great for a couples getaway. Or Lake Geneva, WI and a little further out Door Co, WI or Mackinac Island. The San Juan Islands are also relaxing and beautiful.
Years ago I did a trip with my mom and grandmother to Denver in July. The weather was gorgeous. Cool up in the mountains and warm enough to sit by the pool and swim at the house we stayed in.
H and I did Charleston for our anniversary in September a few years ago and it was so, so hot. It was hard to walk anywhere and not be sweating through our clothes.
It will be very hot in Charleston and based on what I hear from our friends who still live there I wouldn't say they're taking Covid super seriously.
I'm not sure what "couple oriented" means. We love Red Lodge, MT in the summer. Jackson Hole, WY is beautiful, but will be crowded and I don't know about Covid precautions.
I adore Chicago, but if you're even a little bit well-traveled, you've probably been there.
The coast of Maine is also perfection in the summer, but not super easy to get to some places (like you fly and then drive) and might be too much of a hassle for a 4 day trip.
for only 4 nights I think I would limit the trip to only direct flights. What about Chicago? Would not be as long of a flight and you could enjoy the lake and so many other fun activities; boat tours, maybe a comedy show (not sure if they are doing them right now with covid...)
I also love Sante Fe.
Denver could be great as well; I really love Denver.
H and I will be fully vaxxed by mid May. We are planning a long weekend trip to Seattle (driving distance from us) in late June for our 12 yr anniversary. We lived in the area for 11 years and will just be visiting vaxxed friends and getting food from our favorite restaurants. DS will be staying with my vaxxed parents. I am over the moon excited!
