How did you do it? I would love to sell my set, which is actually very pretty. I once tried eBay, CL and even tried taking it to a jewelry shop and pawn shop but EB and CL yeilded no results and both shops offered so little.

Ideas?
You're not going to get the exact amount that you paid. I took mine to a cash for gold jeweler type place. I shopped around a bit. I had a big difference between several of them, at least $100 in estimations. I sold mine to the highest bidder. I had a certified diamond, so that got me a little more. It didn't even pay for half of what the set was worth, but I didn't care.

You're only going to get a fraction of what you paid for them, unfortuntately. My original set was kind of pathetic, I think we paid $1600 for both rings total. The highest offer I got was $300 on trade in. (This is when we were looking for FF's rings and my wedding band). We ended up buying our wedding bands elsewhere, so I still have my set. I might take it to one of those cash for gold places and just take what I can get. It's better than sitting around collecting dust....

I took mine to a shop that specialized in vintage jewelry (mine was vintage). I got about 1/3 of the price it was worth...but I did go to several shops.

I would have been esctatic for even 1/4 what it was worth and could have settled for that. I only got quoted $300 for a $4000 set. I feel like they were testing me to see if I was desperate. And I was not. I was just hoping to have a somewhat better offer. Now it sits in a drawer. I did, however, swap out the diamond and put a blue sapphire in it and wear it as a fashion ring sometimes (on my right hand).
I'm currently shopping around to sell just the ering (ex kept the wedding band - don't ask). I'm receiving quotes around 40% of what the ring was appraised at. I'm going to try to hold out for 50% of appraisal (certified diamond and all), and if I can get that, I'll be happy.
I sold mine consignment through a local jeweler. I'm not sure what XH paid, but the appraisal value was around $9000. I got $3300 after the percentage the store took for displaying them. I wasn't in any hurry to sell them- the money was awesome, but I didn't need it right away, so I ended up waiting around 4 weeks before I got an offer. It was worth the wait since that store offered to buy my entire set from me for $950.

That's really good. Before I gave my ring back to XH's mom I was told I could get about that, and my appraisal value was $8,950. I had talked to one of the advisors at work who deals in gold/jewelry so I knew it was a fair quote. He thought around 35% was very fair.
