Has anyone else started this? I got the book and the workbook the other day, and I flipped through it. It seems doable, but it seems like it'll take a bit to get everything done. Not sure all of their suggestions or methods will work for me, but they seem to be pretty inclusive with how they tell you to organize your spaces. Not sure how sustainable it'll be, but hopefully it will help me organize my life, haha.
I've only watched one episode of their Netflix show (the one where they do Reese Witherspoon's closet), and I liked it pretty well.

While I love their end results, like color coded organization, I think the Marie Kondo methods works better for me. There’s definitely hoarding tendencies in my family with my Grandma and mom (mom purges but also shops way too much), so the emotional aspect and the “see how much you have of one item” is very appealing to me. I did a major purge at the beginning of quarantine and the one thing I could never fully get though was all the old paperwork, then we moved to a new house and I feel like I need to do the whole process again. Either way, break it into smaller zones and plan to tackle one “project” every week or so. Be willing to invest in storage solutions and sell or give stuff away. I find that donating to my local Buy Nothing takes the least of my time and helps with the emotion of letting go, knowing someone in my neighborhood is going to get use out of it.
My sister in law swears by The Home Edit. They are a military family so they move every 2-3 years so she’s already pretty good at reducing the extra stuff in their home. However, she’s felt like it helped her unpack things properly and be more organized from the get go on their last move.
How do I not know of this? There is a show?! I love home organization shows lol (anyone remember Clean Sweep from years ago??? Obsessed). I know what I’m watching tomorrow.
Anyway I don’t know what the methodology is but I do have a lot of their containers for the fridge and pantry. I’m a constant purger/organizer.
I just went onto the website and then searched the books on amazon - there’s a whole slew of them! Which ones did you get? This looks intriguing.
I got the workbook (though now I'm not sure why after opening it and looking through the pages). I also got the main book that outlines the way they organize things and how to do each room/area/closet/cabinet/drawer. I feel like this one will be much more helpful for me. I might pass the workbook on to my MIL since they are currently renovating their home and she would probably use it way more than I will.

This may be controversial but I could not even get through the whole first episode. Something about it feels way too saccharine and everyone behaves in such an unnatural way. It was like everything wrong with society’s expectations of women rolled in to one.

I think that's a fair assessment. I wasn't super excited by their personalities per se, but I did like the results of their work. Not saying I'm going to organize EVERYTHING in rainbows, but I like the bins and labeling and allowing for back stock and rotating things seasonally. I like the idea of using lazy Susans in cabinets (we don't do that currently), and bins and such.
I like Marie Kondo, too, with making sure everything in your house is stuff you like/use/will use and getting rid of whatever you don't love and doesn't work for you.

I couldn't stand the show. I was so bothered in the episode I watched of them organizing books by color vs category. I mean it looks nice, but that not useful to need to look at every book when searching for one because they're color coded.

Yeah I have a hard time seeing how rainbowizing everything is practical. Also? I think it looks really...fabricated? staged? I'm not sure what the right word is, but it just doesn't look like how someone would really live.
I organized my sons bookshelf by color and it actually helps keep his books organized and put away. I also like organizing my closet by color so I can easily find something in the color I want to wear.
They suggest organizing your apps on your phone by color and I tried and it did not work for me at all.

Like this? It seems like trying too hard and just a bit overwhelming if you have this many books. I could see for a smaller amount of kid books it might help them learn to clean up, but for adults, how do you remember what color a specific book is to locate it?
That said I do organize my clothes by shirts, pants etc and within each group I organize by color.
I love their bin pantry organization, but I can’t see myself keeping up with the other organization methods. The book ‘Organizing Solutions for people with ADHD’ is extremely utilitarian, but has organization ideas that work better for me and my scatterbrained inability to finish projects style.
