DDis making her first communion this weekend (Catholic) and I haven’t purchased anything for her. My mom got her a bracelet and my sister, her godmother, is getting a little ceramic jewelry holder. I’ve been looking for a kid’s bible or something but I’m coming up short. What did you get your daughters (or sons)?
I got mostly non-religious gifts bc I knew DH’s family would all get religious things (and mine gave $$)!
I got DD a necklace with a dove to symbolize the Holy Spirit but also peace, and it was pretty. I got an old copy of Kit’s (her favorite doll) full American Girl story collection and wrote a nice inscription in front. I think I also got a doll outfit or something.
For DS I think I got a Lego set, and a Fitbit. Kind of the modern equivalent of a watch? I was struggling more with him. I felt like having something religious, too, so I went to a Catholic store but was having a hard time with the available options. Ended up with a wooden cross made of olive wood. I was looking for a picture frame, paperweight, or little box or something, but no luck.
DD2 is this year at end of May (spread out due to Covid) and I have no idea yet what I will get. I would like to find something meaningful again, even if not outright religious, and also something fun.

For both my kids, I started a savings account for them (separate from their college savings) and put money into it for them. I also had them put a good bit of the money they received from family into those accounts (but let them keep some to buy something fun). These accounts will be what they use when they have money they want to save and then use as they are older for things before they go away for school (if they do).

This is what my parents did. I have no idea what happened to that savings account now that I think about it.

DS makes his in 2 weeks. I would have done a nice rosary, but my mom got him one for me to save for him for this last year. I told him he could pick out a Switch game. He already has a child bible and a small cross from my mom. He will get money and gift cards from MIL and my sister (his godmother).
ETA- my friend got her daughter a nice book on world religions. I thought that was a good idea too.
I think I’m going to get him a cross. Bad Catholic here and we don’t have any in our home. Or maybe a photo frame. My MIL is buying him some sort of jewelry.
