Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano was entertaining and a quick read for me.
Shit, Actually by Lindy West made me laugh out loud multiple times. Non-fiction essays reviewing popular movies, but a must-read.
And The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune is so warm and sweet and one of my favorites of the year. You have to be ok with light fantasy and some young adult/parable-like feeling.
they're older but in case you never checked them out, the Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich is hilarious. It's about a terrible female bounty hunter in Jersey.
I used to read them on my commuter rail and would silent cry laugh. haha.
I really loved Abby Jiminez's books. I ended up going back and rereading the first two when the third came out recently- they're standalone but related. They're at times funny, heartbreaking, romantic, and just generally great. Fairly quick reads too, they move along well.
ETA: Other authors I always enjoy: Tessa Dare, Sarah MacLean, Kate Clayborn, Jasmine Guillory, Alyssa Cole, Alisha Rai, Courtney Milan, Christina Lauren.
I recently read Meet You in the Middle (a romantic comedy) that I enjoyed. Mindless, but with a takeaway thought.
The Lies that Bind was another quick, light read that was enjoyable.
Both came in surprise bundles from the library, and were pleasant surprises. (The library selects a few books from a genre and packages them together. You don’t know what’s in them until you get home. It’s fun!)
Wow, thanks for thinking of me! I've got a second trilogy that's a slow burn, action-packed romp through 15th century Europe with lots of surprises if that's your thing:

I’ve liked Virgin River this year as mindless, happy enough, and there’s like 20 of them so I get 2-3 a month from the library to read between heavier stuff that needs my brain
Elin Hilderbrand! I've been reading all of her books because they're real light and easy, but still have a decent plot. There's also like a million of them and they've all been good.
If you haven't read the Crazy Rich Asian trilogy those are definitely fun and a big distraction from reality.
Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld is a modern Pride & Prejudice retelling with a reality show backdrop. I've never had any interest in Pride & Prejudice but I really enjoyed this one.
Daisy Jones and the Six has a very light/limited romance subplot, but it's more sex, drugs, and rock and roll though. This same author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, also wrote The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which is also fantastic, but isn't as light as Daisy....
Oops I’ve Fallen by Max Monroe Not Pretending Anymore by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward The Foxe and the Hound by RS Grey Call Me Crazy by Melanie Harlow The Wedding Game by Meghan Quinn
Man, going through my spreadsheets makes me realize how much dark shit I’ve been reading lately 😂. I had to go back several months to pick these out.
The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren Much Ado About You by Samantha Young The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center Shipped by Angie Hockman
I have really enjoyed all of Elin Hilderbrand's novels and also ditto the Abby Jiminez recommendation but they aren't quite as light. They can have some heavier topics.

I just gave 5 stars to Abby Jimenezs new book Life's too Short. It is her third book and I loved all of them. Float plan was lovely too but lots of boating terminology, its a little heavier subject wise but they are both new adult/romance.
The Flatshare by Beth O'Leary is a good one! Maybe in Another Life - Taylor Jenkins Reid Things you Save in a Fire - Katherine Center Love Your Life - Sophie Kinsella (this had parts that made me laugh out loud)
My work bff and I raced each other through the entire series during the pandemic. Definitely easy and entertaining, but they got a little old by the teens...
Well some of the books listed I was not a fan of, but I would recommend
The Hating Game and Second First Impression by Sally Thorne (skip 99 percent Mine by her) Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren By a Thread by Lucy Score The Takeover by TL Swan
If you liked Bridgerton, I recommend The Hathaways by Lisa Kleypas. There are 5 of them and I think they are better stories.
I recently read Clap When You Land. It was a quick read for me. The writing style was really interesting.
I love Acevedo, and think this is her best book. Should check out her others Poet X and With the Fire on High. They are YA but easy reads with fun characters.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”

Honestly, the Bridgerton books are great for this situation. I was also burned out on heavy stuff and took a break to read the Bridgerton series a few months ago. They are not objectively great books, but they are engrossing, light, and entertaining.

I’ve enjoyed the first three. There is such a loooooong wait at our library though

I really love the Irish Country Doctor series. I think there are 15 or so, so could keep you busy for a while. These are my go-to soothing mindless books. I think I’m about to start a re-read from the beginning
So glad for the suggestions, I am out of reading material and have been looking for something light and easy! Here are some that I enjoyed in the last year...
Inglath Cooper --Down a Country Road --Good Guys Love Dogs
Kristen Ashley --Heaven and Hell --Sweet Dreams (this is the start of a series, I liked some, didn't like others but this one I enjoyed the most)
