We are supposed to have two overgrown oak trees taken out of our side yard. At the same time, I will be on a series of zoom calls. I am rarely on this many calls so of course today is when the tree people are available. I guess I will barricade in a bedroom on the other side of the house and hope for the best.
I miss my office. I should have just taken today off.
librarychica, same with vacation. And I need to go somewhere. I was looking at a resort in Turks and Caicos this week. I need to see how long of a flight that is. But I cannot spend another summer doing absolutely nothing.

I am supposed to be doing a half marathon in a relay in november. Not for sure for sure we're going to do it because of COVID but I think we are leaning towards doing it. Anyway that means my overweight, out of shape self needs to start training for a half marathon that will be probably run around noon in the Houston heat.
And right now I am working from home and have some down time so I should be on the treadmill doing 2 miles but instead I'm writing this post.
librarychica, I've had neighbors on three sides doing construction throughout covid. It's.. something. Yesterday was a ton of jackhammering, but not a single complaint. Use headphones, it will really cut back on the background noise others are forced to hear. (I have to use headphones for any call my boss is on.. his dog will bark, and if I'm not using headphones, my dog will hear his dog, and then all hell lets loose.)

I'm anxiously waiting for my realtor and the home inspection company to provide me with their report. I'm guessing there's lots that need to be fixed. I just want to sell so that I don't have to deal with tenants anymore. But at the same time, I also don't have time to deal with fixing the place and finding a contractor at the moment is impossible.
Work has finally slowed down a little bit, but I feel like it's the calm before the storm.
My second vaccine really put me on my ass. I don't know the last time I've had a headache that bad. I'm feeling great today, other than my armpits hurting. Classy.
Today's DS's 5th birthday. We took mini cupcakes for the class only to find out that we can no longer bring birthday celebration items of any kind because of covid? Even goody bags are off limits. Of course covid wasn't a concern when parents were asked to bring in random treats each day last week... it's not the teacher's fault (it's school policy), and like much with covid protocols, I'm just kind of shrugging and going with it, but it's annoying. DS didn't care at least. I think he's thinking he'll get to eat two packs of mini cupcakes when he gets home...
I think the kids have decided they want to do camp at the elementary school's program vs. daycare. I'm irrationally sad about it, but it will be the most convenient thing for our family (3 minute drive to get there vs 10 minutes), and DS will hopefully be able to meet some kids who will be starting kinder with him.
k3am, omgoodness I can't believe he is 5!! Happy Birthday! My baby is going to be 3 next month. I still can't believe that.
I started working out this week after taking 5 weeks off because of my surgery and vacation. Monday's run was ugly, today a little better but not where I was. I am about a minute per mile slower and zero endurance. Tuesdays lifting was horrible, and yesterday's wasn't much better. I am hopeful these come back rather quickly.

Yeah my second shot was a doozy. My armpit is no longer visually swollen and the bruise from “Covid arm” is going away(it’s been over a week).
We booked a day at Sea World and a house in the desert for a week this summer. BIL and niece are visiting from the East Coast and we are all vaccinated so will do a theme park day together per niece’s request. It will coincidentally fall on DSs 5th birthday but I think he’s more excited about a house in the desert.
We also booked Hawaii with ILs for the end of the summer as a makeup for the cruise that didn’t happen last year as we are also in the can’t do nothing again/ total burnout camp.
I get to take both kids to the dentist today. I want to switch dentists too as theirs is closer but I’ve been with mine for 18 years and DH goes there too so it’s weird.

DH was able to find gas today, so we are taking our camper to the beach tomorrow for a long weekend (Friday-Monday). Whoo hoo, so excited to get outta town for the weekend! We need a change of scenery.

In other good news, I think we are going to plan on going to Grand Cayman next year with my BIL and our other SIL & nephew. They have been asking us for years to do this trip with them (they go every year to Cayman or one of the US islands), so I am beyond excited for this trip!
If anyone has any recs or info about Grand Cayman, I would love to hear them!
CDC new guidance says fully vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks or distance, indoors or outdoors. Which is awesome because DD is going to a birthday party Sunday and DS’s friend’s mom just asked us to meet her somewhere so the boys can play. So yay!
mommyatty, I was excited to read that too. Until I realized I lived in CA, and CA will still need to decide if they want to follow the rest of the country and the CDC, or if we think we do science better than the rest of the country.
Regardless, we have DS's party this weekend and we will not be masking. Even before this news. We have one guest that we don't know well, I offered up making everyone mask, and they didn't take me up on it. So phew~! DS only has two friends that are "his" friends (not siblings of his sister's friends) and she is one of them, so we would have forced everyone to mask just to have her there if that's what they wanted.

Grand Cayman is on my list. Hopefully next trip in the next year or two. I'd love recommendations too.
Update. Mammogram today first thing. I was nervous because my lymph node swelled so much from the 2nd shot. But it was 2 months ago. 3:30 here, so far so good. Except everyone and their brother has called my cell today and it freaks me out every time.
Vent. Two days of online training. I reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallllllllyyyyyy believe your speaker introductions should not last over a minute or two. Unpopular with everyone today.

I was really enjoying H’s pandemic curls and he went to get his hair “cleaned up” by my hairdresser and she cut it way short and he looks like a middle-aged executive.
Which is technically an accurate description.
But he’s in software! I’m the one stuck in the stuffy industry and if he wants wavy surfer hair that his wife gets to pet then he gets to have that!
I am way more upset about this than he is. He’s like “it’s hair, Library.”

the dogs reaching to the tree removal was way worse than the actual tree removal noise.
k3am, umm Oregon Governor had OSHA make the mask mandate permanent via OSHA rules for all business. So masks aren't going anywhere here either.
Finding out some info from the Title teacher. DD can read and reads well but reads by site and has very little phonics skills. This is causing her not to be able to sound out words or parts of words which is making it almost impossible for her to spell because she doesn't understand the rules of the English language.

I just signed up to do the philly half in November. I’m so out of running shape it’s not funny.

Helping my mom recover from a total knee replacement, trying to work, coaching tee ball, and planning a last day of school party is more exhausting than I imagined it would be. I hit a wall this afternoon before a teeball game and it's like all the kids knew because it was a shit show.

My H just started the Disney Half marathon training. He’s just about a year post-op (knee surgery). I hope he sticks with it. Are either of you using an app to track your running? He’s trying to find one he likes.

I'm not. I have a nordic track treadmill (kind of like a pelaton, but I don't do live classes) and there's a trainer I love who does a half program so I'm going to do that

My three good girlfriends that I do girls trips with are doing the Hood to Coast relay in Oregon in late August and want me to do it too, but I’m not doing much distance anymore because of my feet (I had bunion surgery on one foot two years ago and I’m trying to hold off on the other as long as possible - so now most of my runs are only 3 miles). But the main reason is childcare. My parents won’t be here and I don’t want to leave DH with four kids to sleep in a van.
We are on 5th straight day of multi-hour all star softball practices. The coach is pretty intense in a good way. But DH is easily overwhelmed already and this time commitment might put him over the edge. The issue is they want parents to be there and help.

I'm not using an app. I found that I don't keep up with even the 5K ones.
I downloaded a free training chart from the Hal Higdon Website. The half marathon training is only 12 weeks so I downloaded the 8 week 10K training program and plan to stack the half marathon training program on top of that. I have never done any kind of running or race training without a coach so this is going to be my first try. We shall see how it goes.
SC Governor issued an executive order stating parents have the right to opt their child out of wearing a mask at school. This news dropped Tuesday night. My principal and school administrators spent that night scrambling to form response for parent inquiries.
Wednesday we got the official Health Dept form for parents to sign. It was sent home to everyone.
Thursday I’d say our mask usage across the school was roughly 50% by my casual observation.
Why couldn’t he have waited three more weeks?! (Political posturing, that’s why).
Update: I haven’t heard too much from dad. I talked to a doctor friend and he mentioned possibly it was cirrhosis and they would only do supportive care here anyway, so he suggested treatment in Columbia. Since I am not sure if he travel I guess I will leave him there for now. He can let me know if/ when he needs me to come to help him travel.
Part of me wants him to get the F out of that country and part of me thinks moving him through protests and possible exposure to the virus while in a weak condition would be worse.
