Our virtual fundraiser last night was successful! We have some great Democratic politicians in MD, and it’s always so inspiring to hear them. Especially Jamie Raskin- he’s a rock star!
And despite me saying yesterday how stressed and busy I am, I’ve joined two new committees, lol, my county’s Redistricting committee, and the state party’s rural counties committee. I’m excited about both.
I'm putting in a couple of hours, then taking the day off. I think I'm going to get my second shingles shot - I did the first one back in February and in between, I got both COVID shots. (Last COVID shot on 4/22, so it's OK.)
So, my immune system is going to be unhappy with me. Better to do this on a Friday so I can sleep all weekend.
I’m off today. School drop off, groceries, then shopping with my mom.
Haircut for my kid after school. She hasn’t had a non-mom haircut since January 2019 when we chopped it after she broke her leg. It’s so long even though I’ve trimmed it at home.
So, so ready for the weekend! It's going to be HOT, but I'll take it. Hoping to take some bikes rides and try out some parts of a path at Valley Forge Park we haven't been on before. There's a food truck scheduled to be in our neighborhood tonight, but we already have dinner plans so we'll miss it. I was hoping to meet more neighbors, but I heard that a bunch of food trucks are already arranged for all of the Fridays in June and July, so I want to make a point to get to the next one. The Friday before we moved in they had 2 trucks: egg rolls and cupcakes. The egg roll menu looked SO good!
H's company just announced that they will get summer Friday's this year. Starting this week, everyone gets to log off at 1pm except 1 person from the team will stay on until 5. So he'll only have to work a full Friday once every 5-6 weeks. I'm so jealous.
My mom asked if DS could sleepover tomorrow so I'm excited for a date night. The weather is supposed to be nice too. We are going to check out a new brewery and then dinner on a patio.
TGIF! I swear it’s just been the longest week ever!
I’m working till lunch and then off to get my 2nd COVID shot. I’m pretty anxious about the possible side affects that others have been taking about so have nothing booked for the weekend. Hoping any side affects are at least better than I may anticipate.
Am planning to do a little grocery shopping and couple other errands this afternoon. Otherwise, I’m planning on enjoying sushi for dinner on my patio.

I'm SO ready for this weekend. I'm heading down to my bf's place on the Chesapeake after work, and I can't wait to spend the weekend sunbathing on his pier. I bought 3 new bathing suits and a few sundresses over the winter so I'm excited to finally wear them!
I'm going to my nephews graduation party this weekend. It is outdoors, my H and I are both fully vaccinated and the kids have all had their first dose. My Mom and her H are the only other members of my family vaccinated/who plan to get vaccinated, and I'm pretty sure the majority of the people that are going to be there are anti-covid-vaxxers as well. Anyway, I'm thinking of wearing my new shirt but H thinks that I shouldn't. I think I'm going to wear it anyway.
Weird, I still don't feel like working today, lol. Fingers crossed that my light day stays that way, and that I at least come up with the motivation to figure out food for next week and make a grocery list.
DD and I actually have in-person commitments Sat and Sun mornings this weekend. Should probably do some yardwork too, but between the heat and cicadas, that is REALLY unappealing. Same for tentative plans to get together with friends at a state park on Sunday afternoon.

I was supposed to sight in my bow out to 80 yards tomorrow, but it looks like the rain is going to cancel my plans. I have a tournament coming up and it's not going to be pretty if I don't get some practice in.
I'm watching one of the first seasons of Kids Baking Championship.
75% of the kids are producing kid-type work. A couple are above-average. Then there is this one kid who is producing professional-level work week after week. It's both making me laugh and also feel bad for his competition.

The org I work for has summer hours (choice of working 5 short days or 4 full days with Fridays off). I mentioned this to my new boss and she said "I don't understand why you would only work 32 hours when you could work 40 hours"
PDQ Can you like the insta post for me below please?
I gave my BF to post a photo with the boys as we are trying to win a competition! It is for a super fancy outside patio fan cooler, which will make us able to use our back patio a lot more in the summer.
1) DH desperately wants to keep a Friday movie night tradition with the kids that we started when the pandemic hit but the older two keep going and doing stuff and it bugs him. DS1 is attending a track meet today and DD1 is staying at grandma’s so she can help her serve cookies at an outdoor event tomorrow morning. It was a fun tradition for a year but it looks like it may be fizzling out.
2) Jason Derulo has great teeth. There was an article about his new baby and the picture was a little distracting because I was in awe of his teeth.
DH is a disappointingly bad gift giver and while I know I need to just brush it off, it still hurts. He gives things with no notice of what I actually like/use or things that replace mundane things around our home. I bought him a car for his 40th birthday and for mine I got a necklace in a color and style that I do not wear (not the first time, so he is well aware that I will not wear it) and a kitchen knife because one of ours broke. I had asked for a potted Meyer Lemon tree for our front porch so I had given him direction.
He is a really nice guy but I'm tired of every birthday and holiday being so damn disappointing. DD is too young to really give meaningful gifts and the rest of my family mutually decided to not do gifts anymore so this pretty much means I don't get gifts anymore.
I know this is whiny but, ugh, I just wish he was more thoughtful and less awkward.
ETA: I've tried consoling myself by buying things I actually like for myself but, really, I just want him to give me things that are in line with my taste, even if it's not perfect. Just something thoughtful.

We do Friday movie night in the winter. It's tough in the summer with everything going on and just being outside more. I do think those outdoor projectors are cool and have thought about getting one after we get our patio finished.

I am OVER my shoulder hurting and barely being able to move. I am exhausted from being in pain all the time and I wish narcotics weren't addicting because I would love to just sleep and not be in pain.
Had a good visit at the dentist, no cavities and the brushing my gums and the top of the tooth line really paid off. far less tartar.
It appears that the single older ladies near my FIL have realized that he is single and he has two that he sometimes walks the dog with or will pop by to see him. I would wager he is somewhat oblivious to al of this, but we are happy that 1) he is making friends and 2) there are more people there who can kind of look out for him.
You guys, my sister just sent me a series of drawings/writing that my 7 year old nephew created for his final writing project for the school year. It was about our recent visit, and the video game that we gave him as a gift when we arrived. It said how much he loved the game and how fun it was to get to play it together. He's SUPER into video games right now and we gave him one of our favorites, so it was so fun to connect with him that way. My cold little child-free by choice heart just melts over those sweet kids. I have probably said this a million times already, but it just kills me that we don't live nearby. I would love to be a bigger part of their lives.
Unrelated, I booked a week long trip to the Outer Banks in July, and I'm super excited! I don't know why I dragged my feet for so longer on making a decision about summer plans, so I'm glad to see that there were still some reasonable options available. I'm sure the place we booked (through VRBO) could have been nicer if we booked sooner, but I think it looks nice enough and was actually pretty cheap. I can't wait to take a whole week away! I just hope my H can actually step away from work that long. There is wifi if he needs to do stuff, but I really want to be able to just take a real break together.
Trying to shop for clothes is a real pain in the ass when all the fitting rooms are still closed. I mean, I get it I guess? I'm sure it's difficult to dedicate staff to cleaning etc but come on. Dressing rooms are not and have not been how covid is spread.
Brought to you by the fact that I leave for vacation in one week and have no fucking clothes that fit me.
redheadk, I feel you. We took a trip for my birthday but I did all the planning. DH did not get me anything. He did not get me a gift almost a decade ago so I told him that I want a gift for my birthdays (no other days needed) so I don't know if he (1) forgot, (2) thought going to dinner or the trip was my gift, or (3) did not want to repeat xmas where he grabbed some random things from my amazon list that I was saving for other people, not me.
There was a thread here a few years ago with so many examples of bad gift giving husbands and the sage advice to learn to let it go. It is a personality trait, not a reflection of how much they love you, and there are more important things to focus on in a relationship. (I have been repeating this in my head this week.) DH's bday is in a month, and I will still get him something (anywhere between $20 and $150).
My mom needs a total knee replacement so that’s another 2 days I’ll need to take off work in July/August to go out there and help her initially. My team is very chill and my company really promotes actually taking your time, but since we already had a week trip planned over July 4th I feel bad coming in hot with all these vacation requests lol.
My cousin is getting married this weekend. We're going to have a really fun weekend. My mom is coming in, too, so we'll get to see here and have a lot of fun. I'm so excited!

I had a physical last week. I've been having some non-specifc random symptoms that I brought up. She ordered a few extra blood tests and 2-3 things came up out of range/reactive. I'm pretty sure I'll get a call today or next week to get some more testing done. One of the possibilities is lupus, and my prior House loving self is cracking up.
We've had my FILs dog staying with us for almost a month now. It is raining, has been for days, and he took a really messy poop on top of my iPhone charging cord in the living room. It was behind a chair so I could smell it but not find it. I had to toss the cord, I tried cleaning it but failed. He also keeps trying to sit on top of the vertical cushions of our living room furniture, ruining them, so I had to take all the cushions off and hide them.
We have our own 3 high-maintenance dogs: 1 16-year-old blind shih tzu, 1 neurotic shih tzu that is afraid of wet surfaces, and a terrier that has oral tumors and can only eat soft food so I am making dog food weekly for him.
I'm over it and just want all the dogs to go away from like 3 days.

I'm getting together with a group of friends tomorrow for the first time in 15 months and I'm so freaking excited! And it's supposed to be warm! And we finished building our patio last weekend, so this is the first weekend in forever where I don't have to do manual labor. So I'm pretty much ready for summer!
