Malice by Heather Walter — it’s really good. Sort of a twist on Sleeping Beauty with more fantasy and less binary genders and relationships. I think it’s supposed to be adult but could definitely count as YA.
QOTW: I never ever turn down sweets, but I crave salty snacks frequently too.
I read: - The Night Diary by Veera Hiranandani: 5 stars - Vicious by V.E. Schwann: 5 stars (I don’t remember who recommended this book but that you. It was great!)
Currently listening to Confessions of a forty-something fuck up. Really funny and reading Scythe which is pretty good.
QOTW: give me all the snacks! I’m trying to cut back on both but I tend to crave sugary snacks more often.
I'm reading A Great Reckoning by Louise Penny. It's not really any better or worse than the rest of the series but I seem to have a hard time putting it down.
I read Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline. She’s an indigenous author from a part of what is now Canada. The story was interesting, about a woman’s search for her missing husband. It touched on many issues, but an overarching one was the tug between the reality of present day life and how to honor the traditional culture of a people. There was an element of the supernatural in there (which tends not to be my favorite) but I thought the writing was pretty captivating.
QOTW: If I had to pick one over the other, I’d say sweet, but not by much.
I'm reading Beach Read in the hopes that more people will do book club this month.
I will have to go back to my goodreads on that one. I remember being so/so on it, but as an elder millennial (lol), I am aging out of the late 20s genre right quick.
Bitterburn by Ann Aguirre - 3 stars; a Beauty and the Beast retelling/reimagining, which was good but not great
The Comeback by Ella Berman - 3.5 stars; contemporary fiction that is along the lines of the MeToo movement. This was good I just wish the ending was a bit stronger.
QOTW: I prefer salty over sweets generally, but chocolate covered popcorn by Peterbrooke is dangerous for me haha
I'm reading Beach Read in the hopes that more people will do book club this month. (It's an easier one than World of Wonders, for sure.)
I'm also listening to Winter's Heart by Robert Jordan (a re-read).
QOTW: depends. Probably more often I'd pick sweet, but certainly after a long workout I go straight for the salt.
I read it recently! I don’t check in over here, but def tag me when you discuss! My (mixed gender) book group had a really interesting discussion about it and just how “chick lit” in general is treated in the publishing industry and what is perceived as chick lit or romance vs a “love” story.

That sounds like an interesting discussion! Book club is on the last Wednesday off the month and I'll try to remember to tag you.
