Is there really much difference between a $59 handle and an $800 one? Other than features like motion activated and spotless. I am really shocked at the variance in pricing! Do you think this is a good one? I just want something basic with a pull down spout.
I replaced my kitchen faucet last year. A friend who works in the plumbing industry highly recommended Moen. I chose this one because of the attachment for cleaning reusable straws, but would have gone with a cheaper model otherwise. I've been happy with it. Worst part of the project is contorting yourself around the pipes!
I’ve heard complaints about Glacier Bay faucets not holding up well. Personally I’m not a fan of motion activated but I know some people love it. In our old home we had one with ~5 different settings including a light mist and a high-pressure spray. I loved it so much.
The problem with a brand like Glacier Bay is that if a part goes it’s hard to get replacements. We had one of these “off brand” faucets in our master bathroom and 2 of the 3 had issues within a couple years. Stick with Moen, Koehler, delta or America standard. Most (or all?) of these companies have lifetime warranties. I’ve had especially good experience with Moen sending me brand new shower head when ours failed. You don’t need fancy features. Just a basic one from a better company.
We just installed a Delta Trinsic because we wanted a very specific style and finish, and we didn't trust brands we'd never heard of. We justified the cost because of the warranty and the fact that the kitchen faucet is probably one of the most used items in our house, and we wanted durability we could trust.
Yeah, I agree with what others have already said and probably wouldn't go with a Glacier Bay but rather stick to the higher quality brands. Another consideration is that the big box stores tend to have inferior versions of the higher-end brands; supposedly with faucets they have certain parts that are cheap plastic vs. metal. I'm no pro so I can't say for sure whether it's true, but I believe it. Consider going to a local specialty plumbing store instead. They don't just have super expensive stuff.
We've replaced our kitchen faucets in both houses we've owned with Delta faucets with magnetite docking from Build.com. We've been very happy with both. The one we currently have is touch sensitive which I really like. The batteries need to be replaced twice a year (maybe I just use it a lot?). We'll eventually have it hardwired when we have the cabinets repainted and new countertops installed but it's too difficult with the countertops due to the positioning of our sink.

I believe it has to do with the materials used to make the faucet. The cheap ones are made of plastic rather than metal, making them more apt to break sooner. Any plumber I have ever worked with has always recommended Delta (typically the #1 choice) or Moen for their reliability.

This! My stepdad was a contractor and said what you buy in big box stores might be the same brands but they are different quality/parts than what you get from a plumbing supply store. The thing he complained about was the plastic inner workings that would crack vs. metal parts.

We bought this Delta faucet in 2014 and it's still going strong. I think it did have an issue once with the solenoid and they sent someone to fix it for free?
I also recommend purchasing through build.com -- I didn't know about them when we redid our kitchen, but I used them for all the faucets and plumbing fixtures for the addition with no complaints whatsoever.
