DH’s sister legally changed her name when she got married. She hates her first name and always went by her middle name. So when she got married she legally changed her name to middle name maiden name new last name. It required going to court and was a hassle but she was glad she did it.
sdlaura , both my kids have uncommon names, so this is not his real name, but basically, I liked the name Jake, and 4 days before I was due, DH decided that Jake wasn't a "real" name, and that he'd prefer Jacob... I agreed, with the preface that I'd never call him Jacob. I didn't consider that schools, doctors, airlines, etc would all require is full name. Or that DH's parents would refuse to call him Jake. which obviously endears them to me even more than they already are.
Also, because I'd never planned on naming him Jacob, I never googled Jacob + his middle name... if you reverse his first and middle name (or google it as is, google will reverse for you), you'd find a serial killer and a very famous actor from the 50's. Luckily, I think DH and I are the only ones who have googled them, and no one's brought up the serial killer. But everyone 5+ years older than us brings up the actor. When I texted my family that he was born and his name, both my sisters immediately shot back pictures of the actor and I was very, very confused.
I hereby commit to not trying to figure out his name. I am typing that out because I was like -- hmmm Hudson Rock? Arnaz Desi? Those aren't serial killers though. I think that last touch of the serial killer connection makes it a bit funnier and I'd probably have a few pangs about it too, so no judgment here.
I know mustardseed2007. I was like did she name her kid Humphrey Bogart.
Actually, I think I did figure it out, and I like the shorter version better which is why I suggested formally changing it. I could be totally wrong though!

waverly , I thought I had it figured out but the last name I was thinking of doesn't have a shorter version of it. AND WITH THAT, I will not continue to think on this puzzle, lol.
I got the kids’ report cards, and DD2’s teacher spelled her name wrong several times. But not every time. It’s a pretty common name with many spellings. She started off correctly, then switched to a different spelling. Rolling my eyes as she only has 15 kids to keep track of…
Also got the kids’ MAP testing scores. DD1’s scores were much lower than they had been in the past, but still high average. But she had A’s across the board. I wanted testing accommodations but the request was refused and this was the result. I’m annoyed.
DD2 scored High or High Avg across the board. They’re tested 3 times a year, and on one test, her math score plummeted 25 percentage points, then bounced right back up 30 points next time… feels like some kind of glitch that the Powers That Be should have picked up on but 🤷♀️
mae0111 , oh my kids take map too. I hate those things, especially since they are done on computer.
ETA: but our school doesn't use it for the kids' grades. They just use it to benchmark.
We don’t use them for grades either, but other schools will want to see them when DD1 applies. I’d noticed that her scores were all over the place last year, leading me to repeat her neuropsych evaluation. I’d hoped that with a firm ADHD diagnosis on paper, she would receive some sort of accommodation. For example, just the idea of being timed sends her into a bit of a tailspin. Taking the test untimed might yield drastically different results, and she would likely finish in the standard amount of time. Or allowing gum/hard candy/earplugs to help with focus. But I was waved off and told she was “fine”.
It’s just a bummer. The entrance exam will be challenging, so having these tests to bolster her application would have helped. Her grades are stellar, though, so fingers crossed.

mae0111, ah yeah, we don't have to apply for any new schools right now so we don't have that external pressure yet although eventually we will need to figure out high school since we are in a PK-8 school.
mae0111, I found it funny that at each IEP meeting the staff are more worried about what help she should get on state testing. I've just opted her out as we are allowed to if you put in all the paperwork. Can you get her psych to write out what accommodations she needs for next year and push them on the school? Normally better scores is better for the schools.
