Happy Friday! What have you been reading this week? Any reviews/ratings/recommendations?
QOTW: If you had to live in another state (if you live in the US) or another country (if you don't currently live in the US), where would you choose to live?
I read The Last Thing He Told Me. Very quick read. Now I’m reading Hench. I like it but I haven’t gotten very far because I’ve been so tired at night. I end up waking up in the middle of the night and reading a bit then.
QOTW: I really don’t know. I like where I live now (Northern Virginia) in terms of the proximity to DC and charming country towns. I also like that we’re pretty insulated from extreme weather. With climate change I’m very aware and concerned about that. I have family in California that evacuate multiple times a year because of fire and a lot of my family is in Miami where hurricanes and sea level rise are problems.
If I had to pick I’d probably say somewhere in New England where the temperatures would be cooler and we’d be near water.
Couple Found Slain: After a Family Murder by Mikita Brottman
Burn Down the Ground by Kambri Crews
Watch Her Fall by Erin Kelly
The Guilt Trip by Sandie Jones
Dream Girl by Laura Lippman (I was really disappointed in this one! Glad I was just first in my library queue and didn’t buy it like I have with some of her earlier books)
QOTW: NY! I’d love to live in NYC. My husband grew up there and never wants to move back so probably not going to happen. I do love where we live now and it is convenient to so many other places I can’t imagine moving unless it was to NYC or overseas.
I finished Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, which was cute, and just started The Scent Keeper by Erica Bauermeister.
QOTW: Impractical answer: I want to live oceanfront, ideally in one of the Carolinas. Somewhat more practical answer: probably still Carolinas, but more inland. I’d be happiest without winter.
I read: The Toll the 3rd book in the Scythe series: 3 stars disappointing end to the series You Love Me- 3rd book in the You Series: 2 stars. Terrible. I’m done with this series and I hope she doesn’t write anymore. People We Meet on Vacation: 5 stars cute and quick
QOTW: North Carolina near the ocean or Tennessee in the mountains.
Read: Mr. Garcia by TL Swan. Despite really loving the other 3 books of hers I read, this one felt off to me. It didn't have the same story and characters that draw me in.
I am slogging through The Invisible Husband of Frick Island, but I'm about to DNF at 50%. The story is meh at best and I can't keep any of the characters straight, nor do I want to. Anders is kind of a dick who need some life experience ASAP.
QOTW: I would love to move somewhere further south like NC, somewhere with an more urban vibe/small town/walkable. But in a blue area.
I read Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I’d rank it stronger than Artemis but not quite as good as The Martian. I liked the science (or in some cases the hypothetical science) in it.
QOTW: If I had to move at all, it would probably be to a neighboring state, like PA or VA.
I finished The Rose Code by Kate Quinn, 4*. It wasn't what I was expecting and a little slow, but I ended up enjoying it. I just started Win by Harlan Coben.
QOTW: This is a difficult question. We move around a lot due to my husband's job so we've lived in almost every region of the US. Every place we've lived has had qualities I've loved and disliked. I guess we still haven't found my ideal forever place. If I had to choose I guess I'd choose to go back home so we can be around my family and long time friends again.
I've been reading Once and Future Witches by Alix Harrow. I'm really enjoying it, much more so than Ten Thousand Doors of January.
QOTW: Probably Connecticut. We've been talking about moving up there although MH is trying to convince me we should move to Vermont instead. I have family in New England and a summer cottage I'd like to feel the visit more frequently.
Still listening to A Promised Land by Barrack Obama Feeling restless about landing in another book this week. I’m reading A Single Swallow by Ling Zhang on my kindle, it’s capturing my interest enough.
I'd probably move to Maryland, mostly because I have family there and have been there several times and like it out there! I'd also consider New England area.
