We would be getting it in black. We would need four. I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger on $1200 worth of stools (including taxes) while at the same time I know that most of the stools I like are $300+ So this is actually a decent price point on sale.
My main concerns are if a plastic seat will look cheap(er), if I think it can hold up to abuse from two little kids, and of it will actually be sturdy enough. They are vary lightweight, which has both advantages and disadvantages.
Here is a picture of our island for reference. We have now painted the backsplash a dark black/brown colour, here are hopefully two useful pictures:
I love the look, but I am concerned that they look super uncomfortable. If you added a cushion (especially for the back) it would ruin the aesthetic.
This is part of why my peninsula still lacks stools after 4 years in my house. Everything I like is expensive or uncomfortable (or both). For me, I know they wouldn't get the use to justify $300+ per stool.
These are reproductions, not knock offs, right? A friend has these and they are very comfy IMO. I mean, I wouldn’t to sit in them for a whole work day but dinner and hanging out was fine
I would have to see them and sit in them before spending that kind of money on them…but I love the look.
I can almost guarantee that the wouldn’t work for us, though. My H is 6’6” and just a big guy. My kids appear to be on the same path. We need well-built, sturdy furniture. If our heaviest person in the house was under 200 pounds, that might be a different story.

Maybe they're on sale now? They look like they're $265 right now. I would take a chance. They look pretty comfy to me. There's only three reviews but two of them mention that they are comfortable. At the very worst if you get them and they don't work you could probably recoup some of your money on Craigslist or whatever. I know I've said this before, but I really love your kitchen!
Thank you everyone for the comments. I now have to hash this out with DH and make a decision. He likes them and thinks they are cool, he just sucks at pulling the trigger and spending money on house stuff.
Yes they are reproductions, so they should match the same dimensions as the original Starck Masters chairs. I went though the reviews for Masters chairs and stools everywhere and most of them comment on how comfortable they are. So it seems as though that is not an issue. One review mentioned that they were easy to knock over when walking past them, but we have a proper hallway behind the kitchen area, so no one really goes through there anyway, and at least if you clipped it you wouldn’t stub your toes.
The people who sit most often at the island are really the kids. It’s where DD does all her painting and slime projects. I would love to have plastic chairs that I can just wipe down and not worry about them at all, but that still have a back. I hate our flat topped spinning ones we have now. DD fell off often between 3-5 and DS is approaching that age.
They would not damage the hardwood floor. This is a big plus for DH.
We intend to put in a pool with a covered patio in the 4-5 year term. At that point they may have outlived their useful indoor life so we could transition them to being outdoors, and I could get the fabric covered stools I really would like for indoors, knowing they should not be completely destroyed.
If DH agrees I will order them and if they are too flimsy I will return or sell used if shipping is too high for the returns. I imagine they are large boxes, but they must weigh less than 15 lbs so that is a plus.
I vote nay on these. As someone short, you slide right off of chairs like that, and I suspect the same will be true for the kids and they'll be kicking the cabinets all the time to stay upright. I sat in a restaurant with chairs like that the other day and it was such a pain not to be able to lean back without sliding off. My back hurt for days!
As an update, DH, the original Mr Money Matters said we should go for the cheap ones so we did since I just wanted something at this point. The good news is that they are not slippery and actually have a very heavy textured surface and are quite comfy when you lean back. I think they look a bit cheap, but I’m willing to live with them during the craft era of my children’s lives.
aprilsails, as someone who is currently living with the world's ugliest and most destroyed dining room table while I wait for my kids to get through their unintentional destructive phases, I am fully on board with your plan. They're not a statement piece, but they still look nice.

Our couch and dining table are completely destroyed and the youngest is just 2. I don’t know when I will ever have nice things . Our next project is buying a nice bedroom set since the kids should not destroy that one hopes.
