First, since it's been forever: Hello, people of H+G.
Second, it looks like I'll be moving to Atlanta soon--as in probably in the next 2-3 weeks. I know I want to live ITP as I will be working ITP because I know I should plan to live as close to work as possible because traffic. I'd prefer to live in a neighborhood with walkable streets (sidewalks don't exist where I live), restaurants/bars, activity/life. I've been stalking Zillow and other apps for house rentals, and I've read several articles about neighborhoods. However, I'd still prefer to hear about these things from people I "know", and if I remember correctly, there are a handful of people here from Atlanta. So, where should I look/avoid?

My SIL lived in Atlanta in the Old Fourth Ward and LOVED it. She moved a few years ago so I can't speak to it today. but from what I remember in my visits and what she has shared it may hit all your "wants".
Are you looking for a rental house specifically vs. apartments or condos?
I agree on areas mentioned... O4W, Virginia Highlands. I'd add Decatur to the list. Depending on where your job is, Brookhaven will involve a short commute. That's a nice area too. A bit farther out is Chamblee, they have a growing little central strip area that's nice.
When I first moved to Atlanta I lived in the N Druid Hills/Toco Hills area. Not super-walkable, but still a nice area.
I ended up renting a house about 25 minutes away from my office (ITP) completely accepting that it will take a longer commute on some days, and I'm ok with that. After visiting on the 4th, I was hoping to get something closer to Emory, but them's the breaks.
