The Ugly Cry by Danielle Henderson (I felt like she glossed over some things)
Survive the Night by Riley Sager (not as good as his other books)
Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand (cute if a little cheese)
QOTW:
I haven’t been to fireworks since I was a teenager. I don’t like individual ones because we live in the city and our houses are close together. It’s noisy and a fire hazard.
I finished Win by Harlan Coben, 2*. I'm not sure what I'll start next.
QOTW: I'm not a big fan of fireworks. I'll go along with someone to see them at a public display or watch my family set them off, but I go for them not because I necessarily want to. I don't mind personal displays, but I prefer they be set off in rural areas or at the lake house.
I read a ton this week but I’ll save the list for the June wrap up post. Currently reading Pachinko, which I put off because it’s so long, but I’m really enjoying it.
QOTW: I like the public displays but wouldn’t go out of my way to see them. I don’t understand people who set them off in the city/suburban areas where I have always lived (do you hate your neighbors?), and I loathe the ones that just make noise but don’t do anything else. What’s the fun of that? Sparklers, those things that make colored smoke, those are all nifty.
I read The Maidens and Every Vow You Break this week. Both were quick reads. The Maidens was decent but also a tad disappointing. Every Vow You Break was surprisingly good. Definitely one of Peter Swanson’s better efforts.
I started People We Meet on Vacation last night.
QOTW: In general, I’m not a fan of fireworks. I don’t like the noise. I make an exception for organized, professional displays because at least they’re pretty to look at and probably safe. I do actually hate my neighbors when they set off stuff because we’re in a townhouse community and are therefore on top of each other. It’s not allowed by the HOA and it’s dangerous but idiots do it every year anyway. It scares my kid and my cats too so that adds to my level of anger.
I'm reading Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead. It's really fantastic but also a lot darker than I expected. There is abuse right at the start and then other things that would need a TW so I would avoid if that would bother you.
QOTW: I like big public displays over the water but that's about it.

I'm reading The House on the Cerulean Sea.
I like seeing large displays, but not crowds. I live somewhere people set them off at home for every concievable holiday, and I'm a grinch. I hate the noise, what it does to the air quality, and how it scares my dogs.
Finished: Hang the Moon, 3 stars Not great, not terrible. Typos were annoying and some other points weren’t explained. A beach read you’ll forget by Labor Day.
Reading: The Guncle It feels like a modern retelling of Auntie Mame and the Bird Cage. The gay uncle stereotype is way overdone and in poor taste. I’m not sure why it’s getting rave reviews. Trying not to DNF.
DNF: The next wife which was a prime read freebie. So bad, so boring, sooo much inner dialogue.
