I would try opening a case with the taxpayer advocate's office. It's an arm of the IRS specifically set up to help with weird issues. They helped me when I had a credit that wasn't coming through.

Can you make an appointment to visit in-person? I know Covid has changed a lot but it looks like they might be doing in-person again. A long time ago I had an issue and was able to go in-person to get answers faster than waiting for the indefinite hold on a phone line.

This was helpful, thank you! I was able to see via our transcript that our amended return has been forwarded for processing. So at least I know they’re working on that.
I missed the original post but at this point I'd avoid calling if you can. They are so swamped that it's being reported that very few calls are being answered. In good times, it's not unusual to be on hold for hours and then be hung up on so I imagine it'd be very frustrating. If it's something you can fax about, I'd recommend that route.
