I read the Miss Peregrine’s trilogy back in 2016 and really enjoyed them. I recently discovered that there are 3 new books in the series that I plan to read.
While I know I really enjoyed the first three books and remember the basic premise I don’t remember any details. I never do with books. I’m trying to decide if I should reread the first 3 books before starting the new ones or maybe just read summaries online and then jump into the new ones.
What would you do? Or if you have read all six do the newer ones pick up where the others left off? Would I benefit from rereading or would it be easy for me to pick up without remembering details?
I haven't read these books specifically, but if you have the time to re-read the older books, I would. If you enjoyed them the first time, you will most likely enjoy them again. Being fresh on the older books will probably help you to get the most out of the newer ones as well.

The time aspect is why I’m struggling to make this decision. I don’t get much reading time so to reread 3 and read 3 new that will probably take me to the end of the year. So many other books I want to read which is why I rarely reread.

Well in that case, the summary route might make more sense. As you get into the newer books, some details from the older ones will probably come back to you (at least, I usually find that's the case). My original suggestion was based on the (poor!) assumption that if you were considering re-reading, you had the time for doing it. I also enjoy the occasional re-read of old favorites.

I rarely rarely reread or rewatch things for this reason. There is so much new and exciting to keep up with. But then I often never get to sequels because I have trouble remembering lol! I would read the synopsis with spoilers.
I read a lot, so I would probably re-read if I really enjoyed the books the first time around. I have a poor memory so while I can usually tell you whether or not I enjoyed a book, I often can't remember a lot of details for more than a couple of months after I've read them. I read 50ish books a year, so I feel like it's fairly low stakes if I read something I don't like or re-read something because I have plenty of other opportunities to read other things.
If you don't read a lot and/or have a good memory for details, I wouldn't bother rereading. If I was only going to read a few books this year, I probably would save them for books I haven't read before.
Summary. I read a lot and jump around between series. I often have to refresh my memory if it’s been a while with a particular story line. Usually the author’s website has a decent synopsis.
I know you've already decided, but I'm going to say my piece anyway lol. I do re-read a lot of my books, but in this case, when you have 3 new ones on deck, I think you're doing the right thing going the summary route.

I re-read a lot, so when I'm in your situation I usually decide I have to re-read the earlier books before I read the new ones. But, I forget that I usually only re-read books that are true favorites. So I start a re-read, get bored and stop. Then I forget about it. Then, months later, I again remember that I want to read the new books in the series. Then I tell myself I HAVE TO re-read the earlier ones first...and the cycle continues.
Don't be like me. Just read the summaries and go on to enjoy the books you want to read :-) You can always go back and re-read later if you really want to!
For a series I loved, I’ll reread. Which is a lot for series with many books, but I still enjoy them. For longer series, a reread of early books usually isn’t necessary since I’ve read them a couple or more times and have a better memory of them.
For series that were just liked or I’m hate reading, I just dive right in. (Outlander, for example.)
