Just watched highlights of men's beach Qatar vs. U.S. The Qatari team is AMAZING. There were points I couldn't see the ball, it was moving so fast!
I can't believe the conditions Ross/Klineman and the Netherlands played in. It was POURING. The ball gets so wet and heavy, and the water gets in your eyes. Crazy.
“ “Being a Black person in America played a part in it. This past year for the Black community has been brutal,” she said. “I can’t say that that wasn’t something that I saw, it’s not something that I could ignore. and it was just another factor that can influence you, mentally in a draining way”
I was talking about this with my eldest yesterday - we have wreaked havoc on our black athletes. This past year potentially the worst and worst in timing related to the Olympics.

Thank you. Downloaded thanks to this. I finally watched US/China womens. Holy hell, they're tall! My bff in high school was 6'. And she, despite winning state awards, wasn't competitive enough for FL. My roommate made fun of me, but what does he know. He's Malaysian and watched soccer for funsies.

T&F this morning was INSANE. But so great to watch. Now I need to catch up on the gymnastics that happened while I was asleep. I already know the results but still want to watch.
I got to watch a re-run of GB v Ire in women's hockey (GB won) and now I'm watching India v GB in men's. India is crushing GB, 3-1 with 3 minutes left.
Just saw the Italian guy win the 100 m race. He is hot and has a fabulous accent. His name is Lamont Marcell Jacobs.
Born in Texas so I’m claiming 1-2 for USA because of that lol.
Did any of you notice when Andre de Grasse finished and thought he was out of medal contention? I felt so bad for him, went upstairs to tell DH, and then came down to him running around with the flag and all smiles. I missed the photo finish review I guess. That’s Canada’s first male athlete with a medal these games.

Yes!!! I was only paying attention to the front so when they showed de Grasse so dejected and the Chinese sprinter grabbing his flag, I assumed he was the one who one bronze. Then when they announced de Grasse as the bronze winner I was so confused (but happy because I like him).
"Belarusian athlete Krystsina Tsimanouskaya claims she's being taken to a Tokyo airport to fly out of Japan following her complaints about the national coaches" twitter.com/i/events/1421829015615070216
Belarussian sprinter was taken to the Tokyo airport late Sunday (local time) against her will by 2 Belarussian officials. News broke on social media, Tokyo police officials showed up where she stated she was seeking asylum and in the past few minutes it was reported she was moved to a safe house. Summary a combination of Reuters & journalistic Twitter feeds.
The men's high jump ending is a highlight of the Olympics for me.
IN case you want to watch it live...
Both men decided to split the gold rather than have a jump off (it's slightly more complicated than that but not much)
We just finished this replay after watching on and off all day. It was so great. That and the women’s triple jump. Better theater than the men’s 100m dash I would dare to say.

Women’s gymnastics - spoilers.
I was again accidentally awake and watched live. I was on pins and needles for both MyKayla and Suni, going first is so hard. I also found it odd that they didn’t have one practice run on the podium before starting. I think that probably impacted Jade. I hope Jade is able to come through for herself and get a medal on floor. I’m excited to see both Gadirova twins again.

Gabby Thomas...she is just unfair to the rest of us. Harvard alumni, Epidemiology grad student, supermodel gorgeous and one of the fastest women in the world.
Even though I don’t watch as much as you all do, I still have the Olympic spirit upon me and just sought out a 1988 Olympics mashup set to “One Moment in Time” and cried.

Poland & Czech Republic have both offered a humanitarian visa and she is looking into seeking asylum in Austria or Germany.
I’m still in awe of Simone Biles. Her stepping out of events she didn’t feel well enough to compete in really allowed the team to shine. Sure, the coverage has been heavily about Simone - but if she had competed and struggled, she also would have gotten a ton of the spotlight and taken away from others’ moments. I hope this last event is amazing for her, but all of Team USA is walking away winners.

She is beyond GOAT at this point. To not only be the absolute best at what she does but to also have the self awareness and maturity to know when it's best for everyone for her to step back, no matter how personally disappointing it may be and knowing how much shit she'll get for it, then to continue to publicly and sincerely support those who step into her place and celebrate their victories. I'm not one to hold athletes up as role models in general but to both own how great she is while lifting others up makes her exactly the kind of role model we need. It's not that she's an athlete, it's that she's herself.

I just want to take a moment and say whoever picked out/designed Rebecca Andrade's leotards for the Olympics is amazing. The one she is wearing for floor is the best yet!

She has been amazing to watch as a supportive teammate. I feel like so many people would have just mentally checked out after pulling out of the team final but she's continued to be the biggest cheerleader for everyone else out there despite how disappointed she must be.
