My 7 y/o discovered Siri on the iPad. He’s been having conversations with her since 8:00 last night. He’ll ask her “Hey Siri, how much do I weigh?” “Hey Siri, where did my mom put my red shorts?” And it’s just making us laugh because Siri cannot answer these questions and he’s an only child who has had very limited peer interaction all summer 🤦🏻♀️

Ours don't have a lot of actual produce as well. I think part of it is the growing season, part is the cost to participate, and part is that people want farm to table produce at Walmart prices. And they're like fucking locusts if you put out samples and complain if you don't. The number of samples that I'd have to put out + the cost + the hours to participate (arrival time is really early and it takes forever to pack-up and get out) made the ROI not worth it.
I wonder if part of the issue here is that now there are a ton of little markets. On one hand, easier to get to for customers, but years ago there were only two big ones in the city and they were 90% produce. If I was a farmer, I don’t know if I’d want to bother coming down multiple times a week or for markets with less of a draw?
I think that could be a part of it too. There are so many "markets" these days. I might be bitter but I don't think the organizers give a shit. They get paid before the markets begin each season and they'll clearly take anyone with something to sell.
We had both kids signed up for sailing camp, Youngest has done it for three summers and had her first week beginning of the summer.
Oldest decided this year they want to do it. They were on the waiting list the first week but was able to get a spot with sister for the second week, it would be next week.
They have had to cancel the last three weeks and this upcoming week because of red tide.
I’m so pissed and bummed. Selfishly and for my kids. Stupid fucking DeathSantis and GOP. So much is screwed up, so many dead fish and animals, peoples jobs are getting screwed.

I spent the last 2 days driving to my new home. I am so done. If I never get back in my car it’ll be too soon. I unloaded all my crap and it’s sitting in boxes and bins behind a closed door. I am so, so tired. So I am sprawled on my couch, drinking wine, and watching old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.

Both tonight and a few weeks ago, two different customers at the brewery I work for told my husband he looks like Justin Timberlake. I don't get it, but if his head swells any more his baseball cap won't fit.
“Hey google. Where are grandad’s glasses?” “Here is a list of Spanish classes.” ALL THE TIME.
It has actually helped Ds1 (who is in ST) with his speech because he has to slow down and enunciate for google to understand. Now if he would only do that when he talks to us...
It's been a pretty good weekend so far, but I'd like to just skip today. My period started, so I'm grumpy and in pain. H and I need to talk about money which will make me more grumpy. And the fish tank needs a gravel vac which will increase my pain.
It'd be really nice if I could just sleep and watch cartoons all day, but neither of those chores can wait, so I'm just hoping H is in a better mood than I am. He was grumpy yesterday though. *sigh*

I won't let the kids use any of the voice activated stuff b/c it would annoy the hell out of me, but I wanted to watch the Mr. Rogers doc, so I typed it in on my smart TV. I guess even with typing stuff in, Google or Alexa or whomever talks back.
I typed in "Won't you be my neighbor", hit search. "Oh, I'd love to be your neighbor". WHAT? No you dummy! It took like three tries of searching to finally get her to comprehend what I was wanting.
circa1978 I'm glad STL county mandated it but I KNOW STC won't. They never did in the first place. At least most stores did, so I'm hoping they follow suit again. I still haven't been to a store w/o a mask b/c I don't trust anyone. And I just found out Friday that my realtor's husband tested positive, though she tested negative. I was confused she had to quarantine when she then admitted to not being vaccinated b/c of the lack of research. And OF COURSE today is our open house, but I guess she got someone to cover for her.
I always tell people my BFF is a vaccine research scientist at Pfizer and while she didn't work on this vaccine, I deferred to her, and once she told me to get vaccinated, I did. Because I don't know what any of this means and she does, so if she was comfortable, I was comfortable. And honestly, I feel it's helped convince others a bit.
So everyone, just stretch the truth a bit and tell them YOUR friend is a vaccine research scientist at Pfizer, lol.
We’re driving back from vacation today. It was wonderful but I will be happy to get home. It was a ton of driving and go go go. Four national parks, a national monument, Horseshoe Bend and one tribal park. My absolute favorite thing was Monument Valley. Omg it was stunning. We splurged on a suite with a premium view for our ten year anniversary Friday and also did a backcountry tour with a Navajo guide and that was my #1 activity we did. Highly recommend if you ever go there.

How did your knee hold up?
I was just about to ask this too! Hope your knee felt ok, RoxMonster!
We got back last night from a week away. Two nights on the beach in Georgia, and four nights at my parents' place in Florida. It was so nice to see my grandma for the first time since November 2019. However, we are all wiped from yesterday's drive. Twelve hours in the car was not awful, but once we got home it seemed like our bodies and brains shut down immediately.
Today is all about laundry and the Olympics. Can't wait until we can pick up our pup at the boarders at 5. She is such a good girl and I felt terrible about leaving her behind.
I don’t understand why the whole off is quarantined. This was never the CDC guidance. Obviously the person whose spouse it is should quarantine but unless that person also tests positive there is no need for the whole office to do so.

Thanks for asking and isabel too. No issues at all! I think I must have just tweaked something that weekend that resolved itself in a couple days before my trip started. My biggest issue was the 3 blisters I developed by the end of the trip lol
I thought DH was going to get a much needed, only one thing on the to-do list, kind of weekend, but it hasn't worked out that way.
We knew that we had one repair to do on a trim board, but the painter found some rot on a sill and a couple of trim pieces on the front windows, so DH spent yesterday afternoon taking care of all of that.
Today he took down some random stuff that is no longer needed...several battery operated motion detector lights that we had forgotten about, an old, long before our time hilariously large alarm speaker, and a couple of other little things. He finally decided that if there is anything else that got overlooked, it could stay. Before he hopped into the shower, he asked if I was absolutely sure that there wasn't anything else that he needed to fix. lol
I had to help him out a little, and I only had a couple of my own chores that I needed to do outdoors, which was good, because it is hot and humid out there. Yuck.
I normally really like my curly hair, but we've reached the point in the year where it is hilariously hideous from the heat and humidity. At this time of year, I always threaten to shave my head, or at least cut my already short hair super short, and this year is no different. I might just do it this time though...not shave it, just cut it super short. I could use a change, and besides, it's only hair, and it'll grow back.
I think i have COVID. If not i have another virus. No respiratory symptoms yet, but i woke up nauseous overnight and my stomach still feels off. I have a headache and a 100.8 fever, along with body aches. My skin hurts.
I am trying to get a Covid test. It is a 1 hour wait at urgent care and if the rapid test comes back negative, the PCR may take several days. Wtf, why so long??? I may try the health dept tomorrow if my rapid is negative, i guess. I have a slow week at work except for Wednesday morning i have something important that would be hard to reschedule, so i really need to know before then if I need to quarantine. Honestly i feel like shit anyway so idk how it would even go. Ugh.
We were in the Bay Area for the last week and our rental car was broken into on the way to the airport yesterday. They made off with a backpack and a small suitcase, but we were able to recover the small suitcase since it had nothing of real value to them. It did, however, have my daughter's Tilley hat that she got from her grandfather's stuff when he died, so recovering that was such a blessing.
The whole thing obviously sucked, but I am so grateful that a woman saw it happen and then was able to actually find the guys in an adjacent parking lot and call it into the cops. They were sitting on the curb with all our stuff spread out in front of them. That's the only reason the cops showed up, but they were gone by the time the officers arrived.
So far our tally is over $1400 in electronics and clothing that is gone, and it won't be worth filing a claim with our insurance since our deductible is $1000.
I feel like I'm having a productive weekend, even though I haven't actually done much.
I took a 30 minute walk yesterday and then picked raspberries in my yard for about 15 minutes and in that time I managed to sunburn my shoulders. It's not too bad, but I feel dumb for not considering I should have put on sunscreen.
We also went to Shakespeare in the Park last night. It was PACKED. We've been doing this for more than a decade (maybe 15 years or more? we can't remember), and we've gone to a couple of different parks, but we've never seen so many people. I guess everyone was ready to get out on a very nice evening and be around people. I could barely see the play though. They didn't have any kind of stage this year (they do some years), and because of how many people there were, people with tall chairs were sprinkled throughout the audience and blocking the view.
Now today I've done restorative yoga and a couple of loads of laundry. I need to do some prep work for dinner, but otherwise it's a pretty chill day.
RoxMonster I love Monument Valley! I think we probably did the same thing you did - stayed overnight and did a sunrise tour the next day. I’d really like to do it again one day.
We had brunch and then saw Roadrunner, the documentary about Anthony Bourdain. It was excellent whether you were a fan or knew about him peripherally. Very thoughtful and certainly a conversation starter.
wildrice, thanks for asking. He’s totally fine. No fever since I gave him meds yesterday around 7am, so he was feverish for about 12 hours. He ate fine yesterday. He’s totally normal today.
He used to spike random fevers when he was smaller and I’m wondering if that was one of those. Just a long, busy week without routine, minimal fruit/Veg, and a bit of car sickness made for a perfect storm of feeling pretty off until he got some good sleep and nutrients.

I’m exhausted lol. It’s been a rough couple of weeks so I met a friend at a little zoo yesterday so DS could do something fun after being in quarantine with me.

such a bummer and so sad for everyone! But, LOL @ deathsantis! Never heard or read that before (very appropriate, though).
