All I can suggest is look at the measurements before buying. The quilt I have from Eddie Bauer is oversized queen that fits our king waterbed, I want to say it is 90”x90”. EB no longer has a large home store.
Not sure about quilts, but I spent $ at the Company Store for an XL king duvet and cover, and it was worth every penny. I also have a Marimekko comforter set from Nordstrom that hangs long enough in all sides.

I typically size up in blankets and comforters/duvets, but now that we are moving to a king, I've had to look at measurements and reviews. Sometimes California King is the exact same size (but still costs more for some reason?).

This is a good thread. I feel like every quilt, comforter and duvet I have ever bought for a king bed has been too short on the sides and too long on the bottom. We use the top layer as sleeping blankets (I know some people only use them to complete a made bed), so I'd love it if it was longer on the sides too. That way, there's some give on the sides, especially if your partner is a blanket-snatcher, lol.

The casaluna oversized king duvet is awesome. It also has three loops at the top and bottom to attach to your cover so it won't move.

For a 16” drop on all three sides you need a 108” wide by 96” tall quilt for a standard King bed. Anything bigger than that is pretty huge. So look for dimensions and then you will be set.
