(the other things at this price were either land you probably aren't allowed to build on or a few complete tear downs.)
Ahhh, see, this would be my dream cabin in the woods type home if it were just me. I actually don’t mind small houses but what I wouldn’t give to be surrounded by nothing but redwoods!

That's why it's like the one Agnes posted: appealing but small and expensive by out of area standards
You can’t find anything like this for that listing price down where I am. I know because we’ve been looking.
Yes - Lagunitas, Forrest Knolls and those other west Marin redwwods towns are remote but wonderful.
Some of the towns off hwy 9 and hwy 17 have a similar feel. Have you looked at this one in Boulder Creek? It's not quite as remote, but still looks woodsy

Too far from the city. 😞 I basically want a unicorn property — wooded lot, but close to SF and Silicon Valley towns, three bedrooms, three baths, and a not-crazy price. I feel like we’ve looked at everything on the market in our price range but ruled them out for one reason or another.

I feel like this house is posted all the time. I know it's not this exact house, but they all look the same. It has to be because CA houses are all built on about the same blueprint.
it’s the California bungalow style that I post all the time lol
Those 1930s bungalows are also in the Houston Heights, which was "ghetto" when I lived there as a kid and prices are not actually super far off from this, probably for 100 or 200 more SF.
We had one of these bungalow style homes on Galveston Island (not on the beach). My mom painted it exactly like this except she went too far and painted the steps turquoise too. But it was adorable. She lost it in her last divorce, sadly.
I don't think that particular area is not that rough. I used go to restaurants in that area often and never felt uncomfortable. It's definitely not right in the middle of gang area. I think it's a great looking house and far bigger than I expected for that size. A dedicated laundry room!

It's still "up and coming" but it's not a terrible area. Our condo is like 4-5 blocks away. I never had an issue in the two years I was there.
This PNWer thinks it's cute and a pretty good price too! LOL
This PNWer, too. DH and I have been talking about getting a place somewhere like Ocean Shores or similar. A nice lot on the lake or one of the canals or bay and that would be a perfect weekend/summers/retirement place.
I see all these smallish houses selling for for so much money, and it makes me glad I live in the midwest. Here's what $675K will get you in Kirkwood, a highly desirable suburb of St. Louis: www.zillow.com/homes/201-Horseshoe-Dr-Saint-Louis,-MO-63122_rb/2821099_zpid/
