The damn IRS didn't update my preferences and now the tax credit check is at MIL's instead of in my bank account. Grrr.
I'm a little jealous of everyone's kids heading back. Mine are still hanging in our apartment all day. I'm like, here's money, go to lunch! Here's money, go to a movie! Here's money, hit up the VR place! We went to get uniforms yesterday and that was a whole thing.
They are ready for school just to have something to do.
We restarted gymnastics today and my 4 year old was so happy and she wore her mask the whole time. Nobody else is masked but it makes me feel a bit better. She has surprisingly good balance!
My girls have fallen in love with Gabby’s Dollhouse on Netflix. It is cute if you like cats. Sure beats Cocomelon.
I threw away a ton of kid art today, they have not noticed….yet 😬
My youngest has “evaluations” for soccer tonight do they can have balanced teams. They are 7. None are the next David Beckham! Lol. And they start at 7 pm. My kid is usually in bed at 7:30. He’s going to be a wreck. And first day of school is tomorrow. Sorry new teacher.

DD did zero summer work. She has read a few chapters of one of the books they gave out, and that was it. I probably should have pushed more, but I didn't. It breaks my heart that she doesn't like to read.
I got DD (4) up for her regular Dream Pee a while ago before I go to sleep for the night - she peed but then started crying hysterically and wouldn’t tell me what was wrong. No fever, nothing seemed to be hurting her. I asked every question I could think of and laid in the bed with her to try and calm her down. Finally she cried that she wanted MH so I woke him up to soothe her and soon after she let us put her to bed.
I’m sure she just didn’t wake up right, but damn COVID has me second-guessing everything.
BB has a stuffy nose. She said a friend at daycare/camp was out and had previously been coughing. So now I get to play the "do I send her in? Is it covid?" game.
I also don't want to get her germs. It's been a nice 1.5 years since I've been sick.

My kids used to do this if they woke up at some strange stage in their sleep cycle. Poor kid.

OMG, same. I wonder wtf I did wrong being a librarian and all. She's a good reader, does her assignments but is not a reading-for-leisure kind of kid and I'm all wtf about it. But, I'm also too exhausted from *waves hands* everything going on that we just haven't pushed. September, I'm going to be push though. I'll bring her to the library and have her talk to one of my children's librarians to find books she might like so it's not her annoying mom forcing her to read.

Velar Fricative, she loves acquiring books. She loves going to Barnes & Noble and the comic book store and picking books out. She just doesn't get to the next step.

This is 100% my 10 year old. She has SO MANY BOOKS. She's read SO FEW BOOKS. It's so frustrating.

DD's a little younger, but this is 100% her. She loves getting books. She loves having us read books to her. Not so much reading them herself.
She's a really good reader, but I think at just going into 2nd grade, she just isn't super confident in her reading abilities yet. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

We toured DD's new elementary school last night. (She's in the district's gifted program, and they move to a different elementary school for 4th and 5th grade.)They just did a huge renovation - it's beautiful. The hallways are so big and open and sunny. They built in these common areas with smart boards all over the school to encourage kids to do group work or sit in bean bags chairs and read. (Covid will put a kink in these plans, but I like the concept.) The assistant principal that gave the tour was so proud of the school.
We loved her old school, but she's excited to go to the new one. Also, the principal and one of the deans of students are black women and the other dean is a black man. We didn't meet the principal, but the other administration people that were there were so friendly and welcoming.

We have a cold again. 😬
Not going to lie, I hate feeling sick and obviously don’t want J to be sick, but I have SO many sick days and work is miserable right now so staying home with my favorite person on the planet is actually really nice.
If anyone is in the path of Henri, I'm recommending that you get out some light sticks or light stick bracelets/necklaces. We lost power for 5 days after Hurricane Michael and they made my kids feel so much more comfortable at night and, unlike a flashlight, they could easily find them when the room was otherwise dark.

Shorti was here, and then we ended up with some books that clicked for her, and then I bought her a kindle for her birthday and she really took off. She reads mostly crap on it (she's obsessed with joke books) but she's reading constantly and is leaps and bounds more fluent and natural with the practice.
Which is to say, I have faith yours will get there.
Also now she tells a lot of jokes and sometimes they're even funny. Lots of old classics, and her delivery is improving. Best recent one was "the baseball player was wondering why the ball kept getting bigger...and then it hit him"

We dropped the dog off at the groomer’s yesterday, and we were listening to Janet Jackson on the way over. I left my husband and son in the car, and got stuck chatting with the owner for a while. I got back to the car, Janet was off and my kid was sniffling in the backseat. I asked my husband what happened (assuming they got into an argument about something dumb). He told me Again came on. And first he thought he heard sniffling from the back, but the kid has allergies so he just assumed that was it. Then it was full-on sobbing, snot bubble tears. When he asked him what was wrong, my son said, “THIS IS THE SADDEST THING I’VE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!!” (He’s 6.) My husband was like, “yeah, you’re not wrong” and switched it off.
He also is ob.sessed. with Love Shack. I was on a meeting the other day, and from two rooms away, I heard, “ON THE DOOR, BABY! Bang Bang! ON THE DOOR!” over and over. I had to turn off my camera because I couldn’t stop laughing.

Good taste kid. Love Shack is my jam. That whole album is one of my top 5 rocking out in the kitchen choices when I've got some marathon cooking to do.
