It has been taking me forever to get through the last couple books. They weren’t bad or overly long but for some reason they took days! I was hoping to be a little more prolific this month.
Seasonal Work by Laura Lippman
Cul-de-Sac by Joy Fielding
The Damage by Caitlin Wahrer
The Things We Keep by Sally Hepworth
QOTW: I read The Little Prince in French for school years ago. I’ve read some French cookbooks and their translations more recently. There were a few little changes.
I read Ace of Spades. I thought it was pretty good reading but the ending fell a little flat for me.
QOTW: I haven’t read a book in another language unless we’re talking really short children’s books in Hebrew. Even then I have no idea what I’m reading or if my pronunciation is ok. I need to work on that.
I’m almost finished with The Drowning Kind by Jennifer McMahon. It’s interesting, not too heavy and a little spooky. My library stuck a horror sticker on it, but I don’t think that’s at all accurate. (I think they had an abundance of genre stickers and now use them without much thought.)
QOTW: Nope. I read The Stranger in French in college, but I don’t think I ever read it in English.
Earlier this week I read For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten. Not the best book ever but I enjoyed it. I'll definitely read the sequel when it comes out too.
Now I am reading Red, White, and the Blues by Rysa Walker. It's taking me a bit to remember what happened in the previous book. That's complicated by the fact that it involves intersecting time travel timelines.
QOTW: I have not. My foreign language skills are limited to reading menus!
I’m fan girling on Meghan Quinn and have read the first 2 Brentwood Boys books. She can really write so that you’re in the room with the characters. I love and hate it because they are emotional in a good way!
Also read Wild at Heart, which was book 2, and just as bad as book 1. Also Muriel was 100% taken from Virgin River’s Hope.
Currently Reading: The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn
QOTW: I haven’t read anything in another language, but I remember reading an amazon first reads book that was translated from French and I felt like things were missing to help the story.
I finished reading The Hidden Staircase (Nancy Drew #2) by Carolyn Keene to my kids and nephew. I think we’re going to do Anne of Green Gables next. I’m picking through The Book of Delights by Ross Gay. It’s the 2021 One Maryland One Book pick.
QOTW: I am somewhat regrettably monolingual so I can’t really answer that, though I have read a few translated works for book challenges.

Most recently finished The Municipalists. It was ok. Funny and a quick read.
Also recently finished the audio book of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. I have mixed feelings. It dragged for me at the beginning. But it got more interesting and I liked it more towards the end. I just saw today that there's going to be a sequel!
Currently reading Firekeeper's Daughter. Not too far in yet but it's definitely gotten interesting!
QOTW: Not whole books. Probably some sort stories in Spanish class, but it's been years. I wish I had kept up with it!

I really think there need to be more genre names! I remember reading the press release for that book and it did say it was “horror” but I agree, it was really just spooky.
I run into this with “suspense” or “thrillers” too. To me that is a very specific niche. Not everyone where someone dies is a thriller!
I read Surviving Savannah (good!) and am reading Olympus, Texas, now.
I also started listening to a new (to me) book podcast this week. Have you listened to the What Should I Read Next podcast? I find the host’s voice so soothing and enjoy hearing about the different books.
QOTW: I think I read Like Water for Chocolate in Spanish in college, but I was a freshman in a class way over my head, so I didn’t really get to appreciate it.
I just finished Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I had to stop a few weeks ago with the climate analysis announcement, it was a little too real, but I did pick it up and finish. Hopefully I can knock out a few partially finished books this weekend.
QOTW: only one was a twinkle twinkle little star book in Spanish ;-)

I finished Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo earlier this week which was awesome. Today I finished reading Playing with Fire by LJ Shen was was just ok. Not sure what to pick up next. I have The Midnight Library and Mr Impossible on my shelf. It will probably be Mr Impossible because I love Maggie Stiefvater books. It has just been a while since I read the first book and I am fuzzy on the details at this point.
I just finished The Guncle. It was very sweet and I loved it.
QOTW: I had to read a few short stories in German in high school (I stayed through to take higher level foreign language classes). That was hard enough...no way could I have managed a book.
