icedcoffee, I wonder if they charged you for a period oral screening, which basically checks the health of the gums and the bone underneath. Did the doctor come and check you?
The house next door to ours is owned by someone who lives across the country and rents it out, but it hasn’t been rented in nearly a year because the house is very dated and she appears to cut corners on any repairs. She’s currently in town working with a crew on a hillside project that seems way beyond their scope. My husband keeps commenting that what they are doing is really illegal, but it doesn’t look like it will impact our property at this point so I’m just watching and waiting.
I spent the weekend trying to keep the kids out of the house so that H could finish a project. This meant that no chores got done. I can’t seem to find a balance and get laundry for instance done while caring for children and not letting them play on screens all day. I’m working from home today so I’m trying to fit in laundry so that my house cleaner has clean sheets to make the bed with tomorrow.
I went out to lunch on Saturday, by myself. You order at a counter, they give you a number that you set on the table and your food is delivered to your table. While I was waiting, waitstaff came over with a tray of food and asked if I ordered 3 meals. WTF. Why would they ask the fat girl if she ordered 3 meals? Clearly they weren't for my table number. They were for the family sitting behind me. I was so embarrassed and mad.
I'm sorry they made you feel bad, that sucks. To give the benefit of the doubt they were maybe asking because they thought it was your number but it didn't seem right and wanted to make sure you didn't have friends on the way or something before they gave it to someone else. At least they didn't just put it down!

The doctor came at the end and did a VERY quick check. I think the charge was when they go around and check the depth of the gum pockets but I feel like if they’re going to bill it as a periodontal screening they should warn you. I’ve been going there 13 years and they’ve always just billed it as a cleaning.
I'm irrationally annoyed. I work as an occasional substitute teacher. I work for my home district (the one my kids go to), and a substitute service that supplies subs to many districts (but my home one doesn't contract with them). I chose not to work at all last year. I was on the active list, and I kept thinking I would start working once I was vaccinated, but with the schools continuing to go from hybrid to in person and my kids not being vaccinated, I just didn't. The sub service contacted me and asked if I wanted to remain inactive, or be activated again to work this year. I asked to be activated again, no problem. I called HR at my home district today to ask if I could be activated again there, and she told me I have to go through the whole application process again since I was inactive last year! So I have to submit a resume (that hasn't been updated in almost 10 years), submit letters of rec (which were already old when I submitted them 10 years ago, or I have to get new ones, but again, I didn't work at all last year), get a tb test when I just got a physical last week, etc. They still have my file and I'm a certified teacher, and there is a sub shortage and they are accepting subs who are not certified, yet they still can't just 'reactivate me' like the sub service. I honestly don't know if it's worth it to go through all that just to work one day a week for pennies, but working in my home district was my favorite in past years because 1. it's closest, and 2. I like getting to know the building/teachers my kids will be in (I only do high school).
Can you contact the superintendent's office and ask them to intervene? I'm sure you'd still have to get a tb test but they should be able to do without the rest. If not I would just give them old stuff. They're not even going to care!

No part of the time they won’t bill it out. I’ve never worked in an office that billed it separately unless a) they zero’d it out or b) if the doctor wasn’t in that day and they billed it because I was doing an exam and then would have the patient back for a doctor exam at no charge if I found anything. The periodontal charting is something that’s required to do but I’ve never charged for it except in the above cases. That’s very strange.
School gets out at 3:35. At 5pm, one neighbor that was waiting at the bus stop finally went up to the school where they were told there was no bus available. They texted us and I went up and got my kid and texted another friend on the same route.
Like, WTF? I would have rather known earlier that there was no bus coming so I could figure out how to get up there. I get it's the first day, but come on. 90 minutes after school is out, parents/kids should not be in limbo.

I've got my younger 2 home now as close contacts, each from a positive kid in each of their classes. Luckily neither has symptoms.
DS1 came home from school and told me a kid in his 2nd pd class showed him his knife today, so I have a call in to the Dean. Plus lots of 8th graders shoulder checking the 7th graders. One hit DS1 so hard the other day in the hallway that DS1 went down to the ground and came home with a large knot under his knee. I emailed the Principal last week as this is repeatedly happening to multiple kids and it's been almost a week now and no response. I emailed the math teacher a question, again almost a week later and no response. Seriously I am ready to look at private school. It should not be this bad and this hard.

They just had the kids there for 90 minutes and never called the parents?!?

I would be seeing red.
Right?! Like how TF did they think the kids were gonna get home? What was their end game here? I’d be burning it down from the principal to the SB. And I am teacher who generally gives grace at the beginning of school. This is not okay.

Thanks for confirming that this is weird. I think it’s time for me to move on. I’m getting bad vibes. Too bad too because I used to really like this office, but I’m starting to not trust them and that’s no bueno.

The dentist exam doesn’t take too long. And they do perio charting once a year, but that’s just standard. An actual comprehensive perio eval is usually longer, and done at a specialist office if you have concerns.
I’d recommend contacting your insurance company and fighting the charges with them directly. They’re usually pretty good at patient advocation.
And you’re right, that office seems sketchy AF. Many dentists were hit hard financially over the past year or so, but shady business practices is not the way to recoup. Now, there is also an increase need for deeper cleaning etc because patients also hadn’t been able to get in. However, treating a patient is not about taking advantage of that situation. Sorry you’re in this situation.

That is seriously not ok. When my kid had a bus significantly delayed over the laat couple of years the distict transportation department would send out robo calls. Once I called them and they radioed the bus to find out where it was when my kid was like 30 minutes late. And when the bus refused to take her due to a paperwork issue, I got a call from the teacher. There are so many options besides just leaving them at school!
So they had sent a text saying buses were running late, which is typical. Then 45 mins after that they sent a text that all buses except 2 routes (hers and another) had not left. That's when our neighbors went up.
I guess the plan was to have a bus come back and do a 2nd route.
It was total chaos when I got there, so I just signed her out and left. I let her friend know her mom was on her way. The office was complete chaos with everyone on the phone and trying to figure out what to do. I didn't want to pile on as transportation is separate and has been a mess for YEARS.
We got home, she inhaled a ton of food and then was passed out by 8:15. I'm hoping today is better.

Great idea to go through insurance. I didn't think of that. I think I'll try that. It's only $57, but I have good dental insurance for a reason and short of some major issues it should cover all of my needs!
Yeah--I've loved them for a long time, but I think I can't trust them anymore which sucks because I have dental anxiety, but I'll find someone new who I can trust.
