The amount of hate I have for him and this state is unreal. And I’m stuck here, which is really upsetting, unless by some miracle I find a job wanting to hire a Florida private investigator in another state with sane people in it.

I wish my kids did better with homeschooling but neither they nor I are appropriately equipped. And it’s awful how kids emulate parents bc there’s a child in Xavier’s class that refuses to wear her mask correctly, even though there’s a mandate for 60 days with no opt out at all, other than medical exemption. (Which she doesn’t have one bc she HAS mask, but purposely wears it on her chin)

TN is right behind FL on terrible leadership and no fucks to give for students and teachers. Lee has admitted our numbers are bad. His administration decided school districts can request that individual schools can go virtual on a case by case bases. So far they have denied all request. If a school cannot operate due to staff shortages the school district must close and use weather days. Mask cannot be mandated nor can schools go virtual. It’s ludicrous
"We know we have a huge challenge in this state. We know were almost at the hospital capacity that we were at in December," Governor Lee said. "It's certainly one of the significant two surges that we've had in our state. So we're doing everything we can."
If only the GOP would work as hard to keep guns out of schools as they are trying to keep masks out ....
DH has a woman on his crew who is a Trump supporter/ anti-masker. Guess where she just came back from? Yup. Florida. And guess who has Covid??
Idiot.
I think what blows my mind is the following the GOP has. Their followers aren’t vaccinated and don’t wear mask. Yet, the political leaders they worship are vaccinated. Many already have a third dose. I guess the old saying “do as I say not as I do” fits here

One of my clients who was an avid Trumper and was not vaccinated just died of Covid. Her work said she went home sick and died the very next day. But yeah vaccines are the evil one.
I am so tired of the stupid minority somehow always having more power over the majority.

In 2016, NC voted out our POS republican governor by <1%. If Pat McCrory had stayed in office, we'd be in the same place as Florida. I'm not at all enthusiastic about how our Dem governor is handling things (letting all school masking decisions be local for 2021-2022), but I am completely confident that McCrory would be killing teachers and students like DeSantis is. I am terrified that something could happen to our Governor and the Lieutenant Governor would be instated because he is worse than DeSantis.

It sucks that this is our country.
I am in NC and our school/county has a mask mandate and about 60% vax rate. My ds's high school went remote today after two weeks with 25 covid cases out of about 400 students. No clusters in school - positives cases throughout all grade levels and classes.
Happy that I teach in private school in FL as we have been masked from the get-go. I was somewhat surprised, but we have really had zero problems with compliance, from kids, parents, or teachers.
ETA - There are plenty of places just as bad or worse than here. My family in Nebraska goes to school with zero masks in sight.

I am surprised at how many counties have mandated masks. It seems that a handful started without and quickly realized it was a cluster of epic proportions.

Yes. There are a lot of crappy places but not all are giant tourist destinations where people can teach lessons with the money they do or don’t spend.

Most of my family is in Central Florida and besides my dad and my little brother they are all anti-vax and my mom at least won't wear a mask. My grandmother already passed from COVID last fall. Every day I wake up expecting to get a call or text saying someone is in the hospital or worse. I'm more scared for them now than I have been at any other point in the pandemic and I'm having a lot of trouble dealing with it. Usually, I can talk to my mom when I'm worried about something, but that obviously isn't an option anymore.
Florida also has few promising young Democrat politicians. Val Demings is running against Rubio, and I think she likely has the best shot at beating him, but I still don't know if she will be able to. It seems like the person best situated to unseat DeSantis might be former republican governor Charlie Crist who has lost state-wide races since he switched his party affiliation to democrat.

I never thought I’d be all rah rah religious private school, but the Catholic schools in our part of TN are mandating for 2 and up and taking it seriously. We’re on day 5 of a close contact quarantine for DD and no symptoms yet. If we clear this, I know it’s because they’ve been so great about it.
This is a little bit of hope. I am waiting for DS to get covid. At this point it’s a matter of when he gets it

Haha, Crist used to basically stalk one of my best friends in the early 2000s. He's a pig (I mean, most of them are really).
We have a lot of problems (Ronny among the top of them) but people keep on moving here in droves. I'd love for that to stop before the tourism, because I prefer their tax help.
Florida and a few others! These people continue to be supported in their states. It is mind blowing.
Even though I am so against home schooling, I would seriously be considering it if I lived in one of the psycho states.
I really hate sweeping statements about how people are against homeschooling. There are all kinds of different reasons to home school, and many benefits over public school. It isn't all religious nuts forcing their kids to memorize bible verses and keeping them away from the evils of the world. My daughter has ADHD and thrives doing home school. She does not do well in a public school environment. I work very hard to give her a great education, while also providing her with ample opportunities to socialize with other kids. I have the means and the willingness to put forth this effort. It is a lot of work to do homeschooling right.
My H and SIL had home schooling like that. Thankfully H talked his parents into letting him attend public school for 3 years of high school. He promised he wouldn't believe evolution if they let him go. Jokes on them, he's an atheist as of 2 years ago and he hasn't told them because he knows it'll go over like a lead balloon.
Do whatever works best for your family meowmeowbeans. My cousin home schools her two teens and they're both thriving and excelling.

There was not meant to be a sweeping statement. I AM against home schooling. I was speaking for myself. It is great that it is working out for you.

We have those kids in our district. Their parents have encouraged it. They get 3 notifications and then they are sent home and encouraged to do online. These same parents are suing the school system and filing civil liberty violations against our schools. Morons raising morons.
I've been surprised by the number of people that I know that have gone to Disney this summer. Oh and I know one person that went to Florida twice this summer. First of all, why are we going somewhere super hot in the middle of summer/ August? Does that make any sense?
For the families that were going, at least they were all vaccinated. But the caveat is that some of them did have kids that were under the age to be vaccinated.
I'm not saying I'm perfect. We opened up to a few things that were not in my comfort zone this summer, but at least it wasn't Florida?

@@100% I am in an NC county that is "masks optional." I'd be beside myself if my kids hadn't already had Covid and were old enough to be vaccinated. Already over 1800 quarantined... 4 staff positives at my kids' school alone. SMH

It is absolutely disgusting here in summer and doing Disney in July-Sept is a special form of hell, even without a mask. I suspect most people go in summer because their kids are out of school.
