Backstory - my boss gave me this when she left years ago, partly as a joke b/c she thought I nearly killed her plant watering it while she was on maternity leave. I still don't know its watering and light needs. It's been at my office 18 months and someone else did a nice job caring for it. I brought it home a couple weeks ago and it already lost a branch and a few of those nubs. So I'm back to murdering it.... help!

Aces y'all - thank you! I am definitely overwatering! I have a fiddle leaf fig nearby that seems to like a daily drink so I've been watering the jade plant too.
Definitely jade, and definitely don't overwater. They can be really tricky to keep alive, and overwatering is one of the biggest reasons why.
On the bright side, I got a little 1" one as a party favor when I went to a birthday party as a six-year-old. My dad took care of it and the last time I saw it it was about five feet tall! It was in Houston, though, so lots of sunlight and heat.

Looks like jade. It probably needs less water and maybe a little more sun. Jade is a succulent which are the only type of plants I don’t kill because they thrive on neglect! Only water it a little when the top soil looks dry. If you want to replant it in a larger pot, you can get soil especially for succulents or give it some plant food. I only water outdoor jade in half sun in a warm climate 1x per week.
They are pretty easy to propagate. Just cut off a piece, let it dry out for 2-3 days and then plant it in soil. It also helps if you have a self draining pot or have rocks on the bottom of the pot so it you over water it will be stored there and not kill the plant.
My fiddle leaf fig definitely likes more water, shade and humidity than jade. I rescued it from a friend because it was dying and I’m super proud of myself for keeping it alive so far. I did a lot of research and find the fiddle leaf way more difficult to care for than all my succulents.
