Question for you…are there any GREAT playgrounds in the Orlando area?
We are going to be there tomorrow with reservations we booked before it became a hotspot hoping we’d be comfortable doing the Orlando Science Center and possibly volcano bay. Sadly we no longer feel comfortable so my H is going to drive a little farther snd take the kids mountain biking in Ocala one day and I want something sun and safe-ish my littler guy will enjoy.
In Winter Springs Trotwood park has a splash pad, Oviedo at the park has a decent park. Maybe wekiva springs?
I got the job offer right before noon and I was able to give my notice to my boss a little bit later. Felt bad that I did it while he was on a plane but SO RELIEVED. I woke up feeling like a weight had been lifted, so I made the kids pancakes.
It is gorgeous here, so we went on a hike with the dog. Does anyone else's dog go INSANE after pooping on a walk? She gets the zoomies, tears apart downed branches and is just impossible to handle for five minutes afterwards. She is now passed the F out in her bed and everyone else is pooped. We gave up hiking over the summer in favor of the pool and my legs are feeling it.

Last night we went over to the neighbors’ driveway for a “happy hour”. We sat slightly away from everyone and kept DS2 strapped in his stroller so people wouldn’t be tempted to touch him. So despite HFM it was so nice to socialize and so many of our neighbors are like-minded politically and covid-safe. It was nice to feel “normal”.
We have to get our basement fixed. It’s shifted and cracked. All summer long we went through the re-fi and HELOC process to have money to do this and several other projects that are becoming necessary. We finally got the $$ and booked with a basement company. They scheduled us for October. Twice this week they called with openings for next week. So DH is cleaning out the basement today in the hopes they call again and we can say yes this time.

Wekiva gets pretty crowded fast, one needs a game plan to make it before they shut down the entry. Though I wonder if it would be less crowded during the week/school hours.

It’s still a million degrees outside. We came inside to cool off for a bit and my kid is watching the iPad with the volume so loud that she didn’t hear the ice cream man roll by. Listening to the iPad that loud is a huge pet peeve of mine and I’m always asking her to turn it down but it worked out for me this time!

I haaaaate all these neutral colors they’re showing in home stuff and kid clothes and everywhere. That dull rusty reddish color, mustard yellow, dusty rose, greige, ugh. It’s so depressing! Give me color damnit!!

Lol I just got back from the egg with Donny. He has little bumps in between his toes on BOTH front paws that he’s been licking at. Each is something different and requires different treatment, one of which might end up being surgical 🤦🏻♀️ He’s a year old! Fix it, Jesus.
Nooo! I hope it doesn’t end up needing surgery. Why are dogs so needy??

Me too! And craft supplies. No I don’t want to look like a faded back to the land enthusiast circa 1972. Pretty, colorful yarn, please.

Yes. I especially hate them for clothes bc everyone looks like they’re wearing boring, dirty, clothes. It makes me lol unnecessarily frumpy. Like, I got that on my own I don’t need help. I need help looking the opposite

YES exactly! And not to mention that the clothes in these muddy colors are like purposely loose or baggy or whatever. And the baby clothes? EW!

Is neutrals new or am I missing a specific trend? I thought fashion trended towards neutral for fall and winter and bright colors for spring and summer.
I just dressed my kid in a rust red dress and mauve tights yesterday and I let fall rain down on us.

It’s been faded neutrals/“earthen” tones year round lately. In the spring it was tans, light pinks, maybe a light green or blue if they were getting crazy.
I’ve been having trouble finding clothes in darker colors/jewel tones.

I make a small monthly donation to my alma mater to support scholarship programs. They usually send out a thank you gift in the fall. Last year, it was a nice lidded travel coffee cup with the school’s logo.
This year, they sent a coffee mug and a lovely chocolate orange. In September. When the average temps hover around 100*. And I live locally, so it’s not as if it was unexpected that it would be hot.
Somehow the foil managed to contain the mess but omg. I expect this from out-of-state relatives who still don’t think twice about mailing candles, chocolates, and other melty things out here. Not from the area where each summer local news crews race to fry an egg on the sidewalk or bake cookies on a car’s dashboard.
It sounds like one of my DD's girl scout leaders might quit. I would actually be willing to co-lead, but... not with the current leader (the one that is *not* quitting). I'm trying to figure out if I can put feelers out for someone else who could co-lead with me, and maybe we could find a diplomatic way of saying "Hey, both of you have done such a great job! We are willing to let you retire and be the next team."
Alternately, I'm wondering if I could reach out to the leader who is rumored to want to quit, and tell her that I would be a "shadow" leader who will do as much work as she wants as long as I don't have to work directly with the other leader LOL.
(I was once co-homeroom parent with the other leader, and she is extraordinarily difficult to work with. Everything is a last-minute emergency, but also, she has strong feelings about the way things should go and wants to micromanage. It's almost definitely the reason that the other leader wants to quit).

Oh, yes I don't like that for year round. I like to change my color palettes for the season but in spring and summer we do bright and fun colors for sure.
The fall aesthetic makes me happy but that's cause it means fall for us.
A friend of ours was over yesterday to help my H with a car repair project, and later this afternoon my H is going over to the same friend's house to help him with an electrical project over there. Which means I'll have gotten to spend a good chunk of my weekend essentially alone with the house largely to myself, which is delightful. We're also going over there on Monday to have burgers and hang out.

I’m so jealous. I couldn’t tell you the last time I was alone in my house.

PDQ.
I really need to get back into therapy lol. (I know, I’ve been saying this for awhile).
My marriage sucks and we’re living as roommates, which is working for us now because the COL here is ridiculous and we can coparent DS. Even if we sell our home, we both would have to pay to live elsewhere so this just works for practical reasons.
We got married for all the wrong reasons and we both know it. It will be 10 years in November.
I had a dream the other night that’s been making me think “is this it?”
Am I ever going to have true love and real marriage that isn’t out of convenience and practicality? Who would want to marry me anyway?I feel like I’m past my prime.
My marriage produced my son so I can’t say I regret it, but my life is nothing like I planned or imagined.
It’s been eating at me this past few days and hoping writing it out somewhere might help.

Tomorrow starts the second week of class at my university. We have switched to remote instruction twice already- last Wednesday because of the remnants of Ida, and now this coming week due to a surge in COVID cases. Fall 2021 is off to a banging start!

I read this as “cat repair” and thought, “wow, what an excellent and patient friend.”

blondemoment123, my cousin said the same thing when she divorced her ex. After that initial rough period she realized so many things had improved that she hadn't thought about. She had more money, she had more time for herself despite still being in charge of her DD 90% of the time, and she walked around feeling 20lbs lighter. Someone did want her and her DD and they are married and added a DS to their family.
