These Wit and Wisdom Jeans from Nordstrom are great. I wore them for the first time yesterday and they were so comfortable. They do run big, though.
My friend just bought those as well and loves them!
I would agree with bootcut/straight as coming back "in". The teens are looking like I did in the 90s - big, baggy, long, etc... skinny distressed jeans are "mom" jeans now
My Stitch Fix sent me a pair of boot cut jeans from Kut from the Kloth earlier this year. They are not low rise (maybe mid rise? They are definitely not high) and I think they are pretty comfortable.
I have no idea other than that. I keep seeing ankle length wide leg pants, which I think would look horrible on me and doesn't even look that great on the models.

I love my Kut from the Kloth crops, but they don’t have a short length so regular jeans are a no-go. But they’re very nice! Some day I might suck it up and buy a pair to get hemmed…
I have a pair of skinny jeans that I got at Costco (totally living that Mom life LOL) that I absolutely love and you will have to peel from my cold, dead body.
That said, I did buy a few pairs from Kohl's recently that are all midrise. One pair is straightleg, one is skinny, and one is kind of in the middle. I'm 5'2" and a size 16 so pants are tricky, I don't want to look like I have tree stumps for legs, which I do, but I don't want to look like it. They just came in and I haven't tried them on yet, so basically, I am no help. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful and screw everything else
I got these from the nordstrom sale and I like them. I think they are slightly more flared in person than on this model. Also, size down at least 1 size. They run big:
I am never giving up my skinny jeans/jeggings or going back to boot cut or bell-bottoms. I declare it now. I am 5 ft. tall. No matter how short a short jean is (or even wearing cropped jeans as full length) boot cut and bell bottom dragged on the ground and got gross and wet and ruined. Skinny stretchy jeans forever.
Conversely, I am 6' tall and will never give up skinnies. I could never find flare leg or boot cut jeans that were long enough to fit properly. With skinny jeans I can find long lengths that just skim the top of my foot or a regular inseam is great for an ankle length look. I've acquiesced to the higher rise to stay "in fashion" even though they aren't my fav.
Another 6' agreeing with the skinny jean love. I also hate high rise - it ads bulk around my stomach with all of the extra fabric. While I want to be able to sit with them not showing my underwear, I also want to sit with the top of the jeans not hitting my boobs!
