We will be painting our living room SW Accessible Beige. The trim remains cream. We have a builtin bookcase in our living room that is currently cream and the back wall is a brown grey color, same as our current dining room that is open to the living room (dining room will be painted SW Rock Garden). The only other visible color is our kitchen island that is a navy with hint of grey.
What color would you paint the built in? All cream, all cream and color on back wall, another idea? This room gets tons of light too if that is important, one wall is 90% windows.

Eta new living room furniture will be a navy couch, 2 camel colored leather chairs, and ordering a rug this week that will likely be a sage green.
For me, it would depend on what’s going on the shelves. If there will be lots of colorful books and trinkets then I’d do cream; if there will be more pale pieces or metallics, or china, I’d do the same as your dining room - especially if you want a cohesive feel. If that doesn’t really matter then I’d probably just do the cream, as I’m not really a fan of the contrasting-bookshelf look.
