We’re doing an impromptu facelift on our guest/downstairs bathroom. I’d told our painter we wanted to paint it when he had some free time and since it was raining yesterday he had to pause an exterior job and he came to paint our bathroom. The walls were a fairly dark tan before and it’s a pretty narrow bathroom, so it looked like a cave. Adding to that the light fixtures were like a frosted glass that was a hint off white—just very yellowing all around. So we’re painting the walls Alabaster and swapping out light fixtures… which made me keep going and we pulled off the mirror that was kind of overly ornate for our taste and the kinda crappy metal shelf over the toilet.
We’ve got the new light fixture up and I ordered a mirror (below). I’m kind of torn on shelves and wanted to get some opinions. I was leaning toward just a simple shelf over the toilet again, but there’s also maybe room to do some corner shelves, which might be interesting? There’s about a foot of space between the shower wall and toilet (the toilet is a couple inches closer to the vanity than the wall).
Some pics below to give you a sense of the space and some options. Open to other suggestions as well. Overall most of the shelves I’ve looked at I’m kinda meh on.
I think I like the single set over the toilet vs the corner. I like how the wood/black goes with the granite. I also may depend on what you are putting on the shelves. The corner ones are pretty small looking.
We don’t store much on these shelves. I have a small basket of toiletries that I put out for my mom when she comes (like our only guest the last year plus). Also a small tissue box (like the square one). Nothing exciting or large really.
The one over the toilet definitely seems more normal and standard.

The corner ones are neat! If you don’t have a piece of art or decor planned for the other wall that doesn’t have the shelves I would go ahead and do the corner ones.

I like the idea of maybe just doing some art on that wall. I’m so bad at choosing bathroom art though. I’ll have to poke around.
I really like the corner shelf. Plus, it's different than what you normally see which I'm drawn to. As long as you don't have large items that you need to store on the shelves they are a great option.
I'll decent and say that I think the corner shelves are way too small for that space and will look odd. I like the first option.
I agree. I think the wall behind the toilet, etc. would look really off balanced w the corner shelves. I think a print or canvas on the wall between the toilet and shower would look nice.
