My Monday is already feeling a million hours long.
Insane thunder and lightening rolled in around 5 AM, which meant beau was then in bed with his son and my girls were in bed with me as everyone freaked out. My alarm goes off at 5:40, so I'm tired from missing out on that last little bit of sleep. DD1 insisted she had a stomach ache and couldn't go to school. I think she just ate too much juice and fruit right before bed, because she seemed ok after having a little pepto bismol and going to the bathroom. Dropped her off at school then took DD2 to OT. Dropped her off at school and then came home to finally sit down and start my work day at 9:30. I can't focus to get myself going after such a crazy morning.
Yesterday I finally "snapped" and went on a towel buying spree. Since beau moved in, he has been destroying every kitchen towel and bathroom hand towel I own. Not purposely, but literally any towel within reach becomes a kitchen cleaning rag to him. I was trying to let it go because it's better than his extreme paper towel habit. But all my themed, seasonal towels - covered in stains. All my bathroom towels - somehow in the kitchen? Kitchen cleaning rags - they've disappeared or ended up with the face cloths? So I tossed all of them. Every single one. Then I bought a bunch of the same color for kitchen hand towels, different color for bathroom hand towels, and different color for cleaning rags. This morning we had a lesson on what towel is for what. I realize this makes me sound insane, but I couldn't handle it anymore.
The roofers arrived at 6:53 this morning. The dog was up half the night needing to go out and poop so I slept like crap. I've given her an anxiety med this morning because she was freaking with the roofers. My dad picked DD up at 7:15 to take her to work and I'm now here with the dog who is in her drunken doggy state. Most of my roof was scrapped of shingles by the time I left at 8. I'm hoping to go home once DD finishes all her school stuff. I just feel weird having contractors at the house without anyone home. I know they are all outside but still.
Weekend was filled with laundry, canning tomato juice, moving/prepping for roofers, and house cleaning. We did picked up a chicken dinner from the store and drove to the coast for a picnic dinner/sunset beach walk Saturday.
twinmomma, I have black kitchen towels. DH will only wash his black filthy hands in the kitchen sink and uses the kitchen towels to dry them. I will never own a plain white or light colored towel again. I also have these towels that hook onto the stove that are my fun seasonal ones. Look up pot holder towel instructions. I always grab a new towel when I do dishes because who knows what the towels have touched.

186momx, I established that the new navy blue kitchen towels are only for hand drying and dish drying. lol Anything else, use a rag. Which is a different color and in a different drawer. I will refrain from buying cute seasonal ones for a bit and see how this goes.
I’m at my new job right now. So far so good. But the disadvantage to a small company is literally no onboarding. And I need access to people for info and people are coming off vacations, etc. Bottom line - I am impatient.
We had a tough weekend with DD1. Tons of hours long tantrums, screaming, running outside and refusing to come back in. She needs to study for her school entrance exam and melts down whenever I bring it up. I’m feeling stuck and helpless in this area - our public high school is just so awful. Peeling paint, mold, rats, literally poop on the floors from plumbing backing up. But she won’t help herself. I’m worn out from everything.

Pdq. I dd for privacy of the minors involved.
Ugh. This weekend was a parent fail and DH and I feel embarrassed and angry and want to forget about it. Ds1 had a horrible attitude and has lost his iPad for a week and DS2 bumped his head and had to go to urgent care to glue the wound.
My Monday started out with DD being sent home from school for cold symptoms, and we just got back from getting her a PCR test at a county site while I did my morning meetings as calls from the car. She was fine all weekend - played soccer and got the winning goal Saturday, played a new position (catcher) in softball yesterday. Last night she did get a little sniffly/coughy but she seemed fine this morning. I reminded her that if she coughed in class she may get home and need to be tested. Apparently she went up to her teacher and told her that she needed to cough but was trying not to So of course teacher really has no choice but to send her to the nurse. Nurse said she was sneezing and coughing there too, but then in the two hours since I picked her up, we spent a lot of time in the car and in the testing line, and she didn't sneeze or cough once. So who knows. Nurse says if she has a negative PCR and feels fine she can come back tomorrow. Fingers crossed we get her results before soccer practice tonight - the site we went to is usually pretty quick with results. Fingers crossed for a quick negative result, and at least she's my easiest kid to have at home while we work.
Weekend was good - lots of sports for DD and some pool time. When we were stuck in Portland after our cancelled flight this summer, DS2 got to play in our friends' neighbor's yard, and they had a cool wooden fort/treehouse that wasn't in a tree, that DS2 has been asking for every since. So DH got lumber delivered this morning to build one for him (and we figure we the baby can enjoy it too). We do not have a large yard, but we'll now have a pool, trampoline, patio dining area, DH's prefab office unit, swingset, and this new fort. Oh and the little bouncy house we got as a hand me down. This is starting to get out of hand Luckily the sports practice net is on the front patio.
sandandsea - we had some attitude issues on the playing field as well. DD2 gets very frustrated when her teammates don’t pass to her (she is very good about passing and working as a team). But she turns it into a “woe is me, no one likes me, no one passed” type of thing, a s then dogs it on the field. And then no one wants to pass to someone that isn’t trying.
In reality, the kid that didn’t pass to her literally didn’t pass to anyone foe the entire game. She didn’t stay in position, she would try to dribble out of 5 defenders and score. It was the first game, it will pass, but OMG DD2 lighten up!!

I logged into work today to the news that my direct supervisor is retiring. I just joined his team a year ago and am sad that he wasn't my supervisor longer. It's rare to have such a knowledgeable manager that is personable and keeps his team informed. Right after his announcement all of our systems went down for a bit so the jokes ensued. But all systems down always makes for a hectic Monday, especially when I received an abnormal amount from my clients over the weekend.
We spent most of the weekend not feeling well. I had a negative COVID test on Friday, but was nauseous and puking on Saturday. Of course this led to my mom asking if I was pregnant. Nope, Beau is snipped so no chance there. I just hope DS doesn't get whatever we had.
We had a busy weekend of soccer and scouts, and all went well. We even had a date night at a cocktail lounge and got ramen afterwards. Despite that, I have been feeling yucky the last 2-3 weeks. I don't know if I am fighting off something or hormones or pandemic stress or what.
Anyway, question for WP, we can't find someone to watch the dog, so I think I'm going to ask DH to cancel our fall trip to New Mexico (I know), and book something we can drive to. Recommendations of places to go within a 6 hour drive of Chicago? Last year we did Southern Illinois which had a pretty farm, but there wasn't exactly much to do ha ha. We've done St. Louis, and didn't love where we stayed but we liked the City Museum. We've done MI a bunch. We've done the Quad Cities. Maybe somewhere in Wisconsin? Spring break we did Kentucky/ Mammoth Cave.
Spent the weekend at home. Dh came home from work with stomach issues. Spent the night with GI symptoms, chills and fever. Took a COVID test Saturday and it was negative. I spent the weekend sleeping in DS's room and washing everything in sight.
He's still home today, better but still GI issues. He has another COVID test tomorrow. His work is not letting him back in without a doctor's note.
I spent the day writing a grant to address vaccine hesitation. What do they want me to say? In the information age, there's too much disinformation? I have no idea how to address this, but I'm going to give it a shot.

This weekend was entirely uneventful. I am tired and it’s only Tuesday. Tired Tuesday? This must be a thing. I can’t keep my team’s in-person tasks staffed these last two weeks to save my life, and I just had someone quit because they came into some money (do not blame them, but damnit! We were fully staffed for all of 5 months!)
I totally lost my shit with DD1 last night. We are rubbing one another the wrong way but H is right, I’m the adult, I have to be the more gracious person. I hope the attitude is just a fluke. I was enjoying having an older elementary student and would rather not rush right into teenager. I need to plan some snuggle downtime for her.
So this is kind of funny. When I took my new job, I joked that I wanted to go work in New Zealand and Australia because hello. New Zealand and Australia. Plus those are kind of untapped markets for what I do, and in particular it makes sense in Australia because of the size of the country and how spread out people are. Yesterday I got a call that they may want me to go to New Zealand on business to explain to government officials the intricacies of the industry I serve and how we make it work in the United States. This morning I got a business plan from Australia with a request for comments. I am cracking up. I did put it out in the universe, I guess!
DD tested negative on her PCR test yesterday, but was coughing this morning, so I kept her home. Of course once the cold medicine kicked in she has tons of energy. It was kind of fun to hang with her between meetings today, though. We played tennis and went to lunch. She's definitely going back tomorrow.
