Seriously, if you had told younger me that getting new appliances would be the highlight of my year, I would have laughed at you, yet here I am. We got a new fridge about 2-3 months ago and today our new dishwasher is getting delivered. And I'll have plenty to wash in it once it's installed since my H disconnected the old one on Sunday without warning me and with a sink full of dishes that I can't even hand wash because he shut off the water. Cool LOL
DD is in 9th grade this year and her first every semi-formal dance is coming up so we get to go dress shopping. I think I'm more excited than she is. I also think that we might have a tough time agreeing on something because she tends to want to dress like she's 24 and not 14 so finding a dress that is appropriate that she also loves may be difficult. Also, what is the going price for semi-formal dresses these days? Am I out of line hoping to not spend more than $100?
ETA: this is the dress that she is currently in love with, and I don't hate it. Plus, it's only a little bit more than what I actually wanted to spend, though I would want to add a modesty panel to the front depending on how it looks on. I'm just hesitant to order something like this online without trying it on. www.gownformal.com/a-line-lavender-short-homecoming-dress-with-appliques-p3014946.html
@sameoldstory, I think it might be a little wishful thinking to be under $100, but I suppose it depends where you shop? I am totally old now (LOL) but from social media kids these days are wearing very short and revealing dresses to these things so I totally get what you are talking about. I hope you find something you can agree on that doesn't break the bank!
I am in the office today but leaving early because DS has his first XC meet after school today.

I am getting my new tattoo today! My last two appointments were cancelled by the artist (for legitimate reasons, just bad luck on my part) and I've been waiting so long!
I got my prom dress on clearance at Kohls for $32.
I've pretty much decided I'm not going into the office at all this week. My plan was at least two days a week once the kids were back in school, but my office has pushed back the official return to office date and so there's not really anyone else there anyway. I've got some meetings that I prefer to do in person, but none of those are happening this week so I'll be here in my sweatpants and hoodie.
Trying to do my mandatory annual training and half the websites this stuff is hosted on are down.

My call with the hiring manager was rescheduled to Thursday, so that's disappointing. But, to be honest, I've been at my job only 8 months, so if I were to move, I wouldn't mind it taking a long time, so my resume doesn't look so flaky.
We are working on our house. We have been doing it for a while just for us, but now we are thinking maybe we will list when we get the big stuff done and look for a little bit of land. That makes me nervous (the upkeep), but I'd love to have some peace.
Still fighting with IT to get access to what I need, so that's fun! As well as trying to figure out how (and if I can) get a monitor and docking station shipped to me. This company didn't really have remote workers before Covid, so they are still figuring out policies for those that won't be coming back to the office when it reopens.
Today I'm doing a bunch of required HR training. I have to say I'm impressed there. The online classes are quick, entertaining, and informative. I've been through much more painful ones! And this company's actions maych up with what they say. The preach about diversity and inclusion and being sustainable. But they also set sustainability goals each year to meet, and employees are required to take continuous D & I training, focusing on different core concepts each quarter.
picaflora, I hope you get your accesses soon! Does your HR department create their own training or use a vendor? That's the sort of stuff I do for work, so I'd be curious to hear more about what worked well! I personally hate most of the compliance type training that new employees have to do, so it's always a struggle to figure out how to make people do something nobody wants to do, lol.
Since school started last week, my morning commute has been running an hour or more. I hope this is just a temporary coincidence, but I'm nervous it's going to continue. I had to host a big Zoom meeting at 9am today, so I had to leave home at 7:30 to make sure that I was here and online in plenty of time. I don't really know what to do with my life if my commute ends up being an hour most days. I am talking to my supervisor later this week about a remote work agreement, but I don't think that would be more than 1 or MAYBE 2 days a week. Ugh.
Oh, like myself? Ha, thanks! I was literally looking at new water bottles yesterday and wishing I could find one that had nature or some kind of hiking inspired design on it. I found a cute one at REI but it was only 16oz. This is perfect, I just bought one from the link!

I forgot a sweater today and it's FREEZING in my office (I usually keep an extra cardigan in my office, but took it home last week to wash it). I can't wait to go out on lunch and sit in my hot car to warm up.
Work has been so busy and stressing me out. It's typically not like this at my job. I took off Thursday and Friday last week and while it was great to have an extra long weekend, I'm now playing catch-up and probably will be for the rest of the week.

Gifts for yourself are always encouraged! I bought one for the BF, but I'm considering one for me too lol.

Work has me super stressed. We got another blow handed down this morning. I feel like we are in a never ending pile of quicksand and barely holding on.
wildrice - its a mix of vendor created and in house. The in house version has 'info bites' and then a short video that relates to the topic. Or they'll include external links to things like quizzes and such. It's almost more like a 'quick facts' page with outside sources included for more info. You do have to answer a couple quiz questions after some of the embedded videos, just to make sure people aren't just scrolling to the wnd without engaging.
I had no idea who this "influencer" was before I saw the video last week, but I'm so tired of these people making money off their kids and am so glad their bullshit is being called out. I just don't understand how only 2,000 people would bail on her channels.
The air conditioner in our bedroom isn't working, and it is a pita to get fixed. The bedroom/bathroom was an add on in the 80s, and they put the AC unit in the "attic" that is barely big enough, and it's really hard to get to, besides being 200° up there.
Oh, and the only way into the space is in our very small walk in closet, and we have to move a lot of clothes, whatever is on the floor, and a shelf to be able to pull down the ladder.
It is a huge inconvenience, but so is no AC. At least the guest room has AC, so until it is fixed there's still somewhere to sleep without roasting.
DH is supposed to start traveling for work again, and he doesn't want to go. Part of it is that he is concerned about bringing home Delta, (he works in an industry filled with Trumpers and anti-maskers...maybe anti vaxxers), but the past year and a half of no travel has shown him some of what he's been missing out on, being gone so much of the time.
Ugh, so I guess something happened at the bus stop today with my kid and another kid and DH is kind of blowing it out of proportion, but whatever. I also told him of all the parents at the bus stop (he watches from the window while working), none of them were paying attention to the kids when I was there Friday. They were just all standing around complaining about the bus being late. Like, no it's not ok to stand in front of a kid that's riding their bike down the street (don't even get me started on the one kid that brings out like every outdoor toy each morning).
Otherwise, I'm catching up on emails from being out for 2 days. I'm glad to be in the office to focus on something else.

H's work conference was canceled for the 3rd or 4th time since April 2020. Well not actually canceled, but his company will not be attending. It's in Vegas with very few covid safety precautions. His boss was a hard no once the lack of precautions was announced. I know H is in total agreement with his boss, but disappointed as he really wants to network with people at this conference so he can further his career goals.

I just saw an English newspaper is predicting Chile might get off the UK's red list for Covid travel at the end of this week. Of course another newspaper didn't include Chile in its list of likely countries. If you pray, send vibes, good thoughts, whatever and happen to have a spare one, please cross your fingers for this to happen. My 83 year old dad hasn't met my son yet and can't until this changes, and it's been a source of a lot of anxiety and sadness for us all since their original flights were cancelled back in March.

I've finally got around to watching Promising Young Woman. Man, I think this movie has messed me up for a while. I'll be showing this to my boys when they are old enough.
I am happy to report that I did not get food poisoning from my 6 day old cooked chicken lol. So far, at least. I'm hoping if I was going to get sick I would be sick by now almost 24 hours later.
I asked H if he thought he'd use a Peloton and he said no. And then I didn't say anything else lol. I still struggle with feeling like an equal contributor to our household even though I'm working full-time with a decent salary (although still less than H is bringing in even after quitting his fulltime job and starting his own company).

emilyinchile I hope your Dad gets to meet your baby soon. My 85 yr old Uncle just met his first grand baby (flew from US to Amersterdam). Baby was born early June. Not to diminish the sadness of this long wait, but I will say the silver lining was the baby was so alert and aware and my Aunt and Uncle were really able to engage with her and they felt so connected and that might have been less with a brand new newborn. Again, not to discredit the very real feelings, just sharing a positive that they discovered.

What fridge did you get and do you like it? We have to buy a new one and I've reached the analysis paralysis stage of shopping for it.
Why does taryntruly look like this in baggy jeans-
And I look like this-
Womp, womp. Lol
Lighting & styling. In her photo, the tucked in fitted shirt with a drapey shirt over it and cuffs on the jeans plus the nice shoes make it a different look. You could recreate it and look just as bomb, I feel certain.
ETA: This is also where I feel like I always fail at trends. I get one part of it, but then don't have the appropriate styling. Like when I tried joggers in public for the first time. I just looked like a gym teacher.
Girl. I just had this same issue this weekend. I saw the CUTEST jeans on The Motherchic on Insta. The AG Slim Ex-Boyfriend jean or something equally stupidly named. She looked amazing and I've been dying for jeans that looked just like the ones she had styled. I ordered two different sizes of the jeans since I wasn't sure which would fit me.
Spoiler alert...Both were horrendous.
I actually went back to her original post to make sure I bought the same jeans. Sadly, I did buy the correct jeans, I just can't pull them off. At all.
At least I saved myself some cash since they're both getting returned asap. I want to forget I ever tried those jeans on.

True, I was excited to try them on, so just threw them on with the t-shirt and sports bra I already had on, lol. I’ll try messing with the styling a bit before I return them. They are super comfortable.

maudefindlay I remember you had that similar situation, and I'm so happy for your family! I do agree to a certain extent - my family was supposed to come for the birth, and I'm glad they didn't because I was totally overwhelmed, and newborns are very sweet but also pretty boring. He's much more fun now, but also without a definite date we all feel like time is just slipping away. So if they can finally meet him at 5 months old, that will be a huge relief.
