So.busy.can't.keep.up
DD1 (13) - XC is going really well. Had another great meet this morning, with a new best time. She has finished in the top 5 for her team the last few meets. They came in 2nd out of 15 teams at their invite today! Swim season started for her last week. She'll just do a 1-2 practices a week until SC is done next month
DD2 (9) - LOVING diving. First meet is in Oct. She can't wait!
DD3 (5) - also started back at swim team last week and moved up a level. She is so proud! She really enjoys it and can't wait for her first chance to compete, which won't be until like December.
DD2 had a club soccer game today. She scored a goal and had another rocket of a shot that hit the gk right in the chest. The poor gk on the other team then got hit square in the face with a really hard shot. They had to stop the game to check her out.
When they came back after the injury time out, DD2 was in goal and I was like noooooo!! I hate when she is in goal. I’m afraid she going to get kicked in the face, and if she gives up a goal it just ruins her whole day.
The other team hadn’t had a shot on net for the whole game, and when DD2 got in as gk, it seemed like everything fell apart. No defense, no offense, just a mess… and the other team scored. DD2’s team won 8-1 I think.
After the game I told her she did well, not to worry about that goal… she said “Mom, we all decided to let them score but we didn’t want them to know. So we tried to play keep away and I let the ball go in.”

We are in the midst of hockey evaluations for DS and man, is it ever stressful. It's one evaluation skate followed by 3 evuluation games. We have one more left at this point, and I just want it to be over.
DD start swim team this week and I'm so excited for her. She's like a fish in water.
DS is grounded for misbehaving with his friends (crossing street boundaries, not asking before leaving- although we knew he was going, and tackling his sister during baseball and basketball, and biking not according to rules of the road). So we spent this weekend prepping for return of friends (ball storage and volleyball/ baseball glove for DD). And with math and Cub Scout projects. We did a wooden ping pong set, and still need to examine insects because I refuse to do the insect zoo. In Girl Scouts, DD is doing tie dye and a bat hike.
Both kids are doing well with soccer. DS will return to basketball and DD hopes to do Poms in the spring. I hope they offer Poms again because I haven’t seen it lately and it’s way less intense than cheer at this age. Poms is through church rec and Cheer is through private club.
DD1 started field hockey. It’s just a clinic but she really seems to like it. I don’t know anything about the sport so I guess I better figure it out! 🤣

"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

We are quickly learning how tough the balance of sports and life is with swim team three times a week. We finally have the girls getting their homework done at after school care instead of waiting until 7:30 PM when they get home, showered, and eat after practice so that's making a big difference. They are still absolutely loving it. I feel like they're going to be so strong at the end of this 8 week session! And as a former dance/theater kid, I STILL keep calling it rehearsal, not practice. LOL
Soccer for beau's son is great too. He's adorable. He's terrified of the ball hitting him and won't go near the crowd of other kids all fighting over it. But man, he loves running up and down the field on the fringes and tells us all the time how much he loves soccer. This past weekend he actually kicked the ball when it broke away from all the other kids and he had space to himself, so that was a major win for him! I joked with beau that we should just train him by giving him the ball, and making him kick it while the girls rush at him.
twinmomma, when I swam and my sister swam we always showered at the pool. If the locker rooms were open shower there it saves so much time in the evenings. But set a timer otherwise they will sing and play with their friends forever.
DD got her double back hip circle last week. She also connected her whole bars routine and the coach was so impressed she got a prize. He said he would have only deducted 2/10s of a point from her whole routine. Friday DD said she told the head coach it was okay if she didn't compete fall season and she couldn't handle the pressure anymore. Now I'm waiting for a phone call.
My girls (5th and 7th grades) play together on the middle school soccer team. My younger is tiny and she’s playing against 8th graders! Their first game was today. DD1 is a far better player - she plays midfield, great skills. She was really disappointed with how she played today and I’m not sure why. DD2 is a tiny little peanut out there - she scored a goal! Both kids were pumped at the time but DD1 was upset after the game. Wondering if DD1 is jealous that little sister looks like the better player right now (she’s not).

We just finished the last session of skating lessons.. DD was skating at a Gamma level, and enrolled in two classes... one recommended moving her to Delta, the other recommended a level skip and moving to Freestyle.. against my better judgement, I've enrolled her in Delta & Freestyle, so we'll see how it goes. (I think that she should master delta before moving on, but I know she's itchy to move forward and get to jumps)
DS starts the hockey learn to play program on Sunday... at 8am. At an arena that's a 20 minute drive, and we need 30 minutes for check in and to get all his gear on (I time it weekly.. it takes me about 7-9 minutes, and that's me doing a lot of "pay attention!!") He better love me for this.

My 12 year old is midway through her first season of cross country. She is doing well and is consistently scoring in the top seven for her team. Her team has over 50 girls and has finished in the top three each week. Swim team has started, but she didn’t move up with her friends. They have fall birthdays and will all turn 13 soon. My daughter has a June birthday, so she will stay on the 12 and under team until long course starts. She is disappointed, but it’s a team rule. It’s just a bummer that no other seventh grade girl on the team has a spring birthday, so she is swimming with fifth and sixth graders.
My 6 year old started a level one gymnastics class once a week and is continuing to participate on the pre-swim team. She is close to mastering breast stroke, and is just starting to get butterfly kick or arms.

DD just started Gymanstics at a new gym. I'm hoping it's more structured than where she was before. Both kids are in soccer.
I have no idea how's it's going other than they enjoy it. This is our private school team which only practices once per week and games on Saturday. Normally their teams are abysmal so we'll see.
DD1 scored in both of her games this weekend. This is huge. She scored one goal ALL YEAR last year - fall and spring seasons. This fall she’s scored 5 goals in 3 weeks, and also a ton of assists.
I know it’s not all about scoring in soccer, but she is just so much more confident now that she’s scoring. She’s always been a good defender, so it’s great that her ball handling skills are improving.

Ds1 clinched a championship and won a national level race so he’s going to the big race later this year out of state. He’s thrilled.
We did have to have the respect the official even if they’re wrong talk with him. And the officials were right. He had to apologize (nearly killed him) and lost all technology for a week. I can’t stand bad sportsmanship. So that was fun. But it’s a better lesson to learn at 9 than 16 or 24 or never.
He has one more championship he could win this year and only two races to go in that series so we will see.
DD1 made our town's travel basketball team. I'm 100% shocked. She was definitely middle to lower end of the pack based on what I saw. She had a shot if based on talent alone, but in my town, it's never based on talent alone. I figured that if they recognized her, and remembered she was my kid, there was no possible way she would make it. The people that run the league tried to screw me over once before when I was supposed to coach - gave me a team full of out of control mean kids that everyone else refused to coach. So I handed them my bag of basketballs and my whistle and told them to find someone else.
She is totally recognizable - bright red hair - so she must have made it despite being my kid... so that's pretty awesome. She doesn't know who her coach is, so she will have to decide if she wants to play once she finds out. But I'm proud of her for making it.
