DD1’s bat mitzvah is in January 2023 and instead of a party, she wants a trip to WDW and Universal. A few questions:
1. Thoughts on timing? I don’t want to pull her and DS and DD2 out of school for a week, but that would mean we can’t travel until June 2023. Will we be super hot and miserable?
2. How far ahead should we be booking? I want to be sure we get our choice of hotels and dining etc. What should we plan so we get what we want?
I think we want to stay on site, but I don’t really know.
The only problem with spring break is that it coincides with Passover, and we do keep the dietary laws of the holiday which would make it not as much fun. But maybe there’s a way to go at the beginning or end of the holiday and just miss a few days of school…

Timing depends on your tolerance for heat and crowds. I don’t love either, but I would rather go during the summer and take a break during the hottest part of the day rather than battle enormous crowds over Christmas-New Years or spring break. If your kids have any random school breaks that don’t align with major holidays, or if their spring break isn’t around Easter, that could be a good time to go.

I need to see how Genie+ goes/works before recommending summer any time soon.
This June was just a bad combo for us. Heat/covid/no fast pass was not great. We did not eat inside so that took away one of things we often do to get out of the heat. I also did not want to spend extended time inside other places because we were there when masks were not required.
Add in no fastpass and it made some things difficult. I feel like we got in less headliners than I could normally get with fastpasses. Lines felt long. We made it work and definitely took afternoon breaks to swim/relax at the resort.
We made it work, but it left me not wanting to go in summer any time soon. I know covid was definitely a part of that and hopefully that will be better by next summer. If you go in summer have a plan for the heat.
We have been over Easter and Thanksgiving pre-covid and I am willing to do both of those again.
