I've been reading Velvet Was the Night by Sophia Moreno-Garcia. I was really interested in the premise and the setting but I am having a hard time getting into it. I was tempted to DNF but finally made some progress last night.
QOTW: This is hard because I'm not a huge dessert person but like a variety of things. I think I would pick a flourless chocolate torte.
I am nearly done with both my physical book and my audio book. This happens unintentionally a lot. Both are likely 5*s from me. I’ve been enjoying both.
Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawhon and Once and Future Witches by Alix E Harrow
QOTW: Brownies with vanilla ice cream. Does that count as a double selection?

I was really excited about this but couldn’t get into it at all. Neither than my husband. The writing was very ricky-ticky IMO and kept me at a arm’s length from the characters and plot.
Apples Never Fallby Liane Moriarty (this was good enough but very long! So many viewpoints! It’s the second book I’ve read recently where it is ambiguous if the obvious suspect even committed a crime—I wonder if that is going to be a new trend like the unreliable women narrators has been)
These three had potentially interesting premises but were among the worst books I’ve read all year.
The Stranger in the Mirror by Liv Constantine
The Night We Burned by S.F. Kosa
Nice Girls by Catherine Dang
QOTW: chocolate chip cookies? I really like chocolate desserts and I like one that is easily accessible.

I just finished this and I have to say was a little disappointed. I was also excited about this book because I've liked her other books and the synopsis sounded so good. It wasn't bad necessarily, but it didn't live up to my expectations.

Currently reading The Sweetest Remedy. I really liked her other book, Ties That Tether. This one is just ok. The whole premise of the book is weird to me. I'm almost done with it!

My husband had read and loved her earlier books so we both had high hopes. I hadn’t read her before the the description was so compelling. Maybe they rushed it to print?

I’m having trouble getting anything started, but I think I will be able to stick with A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers — light sci-fi with fun characters.
QOTW: Noooo. I love dessert too much. I can’t pick one.
Y’all this book is terrible! How does it keep getting good reviews? I feel like I should finish it, but Poppy is so whiny and wishy washy and Alex has no backbone.

Possibly. I just felt like I kept waiting for things to happen that never did. Mexican Gothic was a slow build but it at least kept me interested!

I know Mexican Gothic was kind of a surprise hit which is what made me think she/the publishers were really hustling to get a new book out. I couldn’t quite put my finger on why it dragged so much!

I thought it was very forgettable! I think she must have an in with reviewers because even for a light book it was flimsy. I’m not sure what book these other people are reading. I read an ARC and was very surprised by the reviews when it came out .

Phew, glad it’s not just me. I’m basically skimming at this point. Thankful for the kindle app on my phone to just swipe up constantly!

I enjoyed it bc it didn’t take any brain power to read, I read it very quickly and I knew how it was going to end before it started which was soothing. I want to say I read it after reading heavier books so it was a perfect fluff book. I remember very little of the book and I didn’t read it that long ago.
